All my Joinery Pencils are nice and sharp, All that is left is Wood and Graphite..............I am amazed that this Trash could become a work of Art.

For the "Looking close... on Friday!" challenge "pencil points" 😊

Graphite is so wonderful ... from graphite powder to wood encased 'pencils' to sticks of pure graphite, I use it for drawing all the time. I rarely stop to think what an amazing mineral it is - so I looked it up on the Wiki and was surprised!

"Graphite, archaically referred to as plumbago, is a crystalline form of the element carbon with its atoms arranged in a hexagonal structure. It occurs naturally in this form and is the most stable form of carbon under standard conditions. Under high pressures and temperatures it converts to diamond"

The ability to leave marks on paper and other objects gave graphite its name, given in 1789 by German mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner. It stems from γράφειν ("graphein"), meaning to write or draw in Ancient Greek.

The moment I saw a photograph of this man, I knew I'd try to capture his intense gaze. This graphite drawing was my first attempt at capturing that moment in time.
