Up until recently I thought the GPS functionality on my phone was broken, but the new version of Google Maps has a clever assisted GPS that uses mobile mast ids and its quite amusing to watch the 'My Location' marker move from North Uist, Lochcarron(?), then to Marybank. It hovers on Marybank for a minute or so until it gets enough strong satellites signals to get a lock at which point it moves with suprising accuracy ( within a couple of metres ) to the right location.
You have to place it in a window or be outside, once it has a lock I think it uses the accelerometer to measure movement, so the point follows a few metres behind you fairly accurately.
The difference between Google Maps Mobile and Nokia's own maps applications is quite stark. Nokia map's application has very little text notification on the screen to say what the apps doing, doesn't seem to use assisted GPS, used half a meg of bandwidth before it shifted of London and the map images don't seem so good. I thought Nokia Maps would have be better, now they have bought Navteq maybe it will get better.
I don't think the GPS at this stage is much more than a toy, but I have found Google Maps Mobile without the My Location functionality to be useful a number of time. Although its fairly bandwidth heavy and really needs a data package ( Vodafone do a nice £7 for 120MB deal ) or wifi to avoid over the top data charges.

A screenshot of Google Maps of the southeast Baltimore metro area this morning - highlighting the tragic Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse which occurred earlier this morning. It is obviously affecting traffic for I-695, a major route for not only the Baltimore area, but for commercial traffic along the East Coast.

We hiked part of the Sac River Trail again today.
The trail has been significantly overhauled and changed recently, and the good news is that there is a new trail map poster at the trail head. Unfortunately the map isn't available online right now. We contacted Ozark Greenways (22 October 2010), and they sent us a low resolution version of the trail map poster, and they informed us that the online trail map will be updated very soon.
I took a picture of the poster at the trail head and I've used that to trace the trails and overlaid them on a Google Maps view of the area, The result is a higher resolution image than that sent to us by Ozark Greenways, but not necessarily as accurate. I tried to overlay the trails on the Topo map of the area, but there aren't enough features in common to align it properly (The topo map pre-dates Hwy13, the water treatment plant and cell phone tower) . This map is approximate, I aligned my trails tracing on the position of the blast area, parking lot, barn and cell phone tower and a couple of visible paths. However, it should give a reasonable idea of the layout of the revised trails.
Also it seems to us that there are some paths missing from the poster.

This is a screen-shot (Google Maps) of the largest resolution satellite view available of Suyo in 2009... Suyo is a small town in Piura, in the north of Perú, on the Pan-American Highway, just a short distance from the border with Ecuador.
