Historic Village of Shirakawa-gō ( a UNESCO World Heritage Site)

Shirakawa-go (Shirakawa Village) is a Japanese mountain settlement in what was once considered a wild and unexplored region. Because of the area’s natural environment, with high mountains and heavy snowfall, interaction with neighboring regions was limited. However, this also created the conditions for the development of unique cultural practices and lifestyles. Now registered as a World Cultural Heritage site.

Gravity will finally pull these gravestones down. Memory may already have faded or gone completely. Living memory stretches back to the grandparents' generation and, if we are lucky, to that of the great-grandparents. Stone or not. Let them fall gently and, like memory itself, drift into oblivion. Spatule blanche (Platalea leucorodia)

I forgot to ask Santa for a bit of inspiration... maybe he can send it for next Christmas...

You've applied the pressure

To have me crystalised

And you've got the faith

That I could bring paradise

I'll forgive and forget

Before I'm paralyzed

Do I have to keep up the pace

To keep you satisfied

Things have gotten

Closer to the sun

And I've done things in small doses

So don't think that

I'm pushing you away

When you're the one that I've kept closest

You don't move slow

You're taking steps

In my directions

The sounds echo

Does it lessen your affection

No

You say I'm foolish

For pushing this aside

Burn down our home

I won't leave alive

Glaciers have melted to the sea

I wish the tide would take me over

I've been down on my knees

And you just keep on getting closer

Placid as I melt into the sea

I wish the tide would take me over

I've been down onto my knees

And you just keep on getting closer

Go slow

Go slow

Street photography from Glasgow, Scotland, captured in January 2025.

There was actually a light flurry of snow not many minutes after I captured this shot.

Going off-piste from my photography for an update just to say that, sadly, my Long Covid flare-up continues.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend my Flickr friends.

Thinking of my American followers in the path of the deep winter storm that is coming. Contrary to the words of the current US President, this is most likely a direct result of 'global warming'. Hotter air holds more moisture. A hotter atmosphere is more unstable. This storm is part of the polar vortex falling to lower latitudes due to that instability. Climate change brings chaos.

Do US schools not teach the difference between weather and climate? Teach the difference between local and global? I'm just curious how he can be so ill informed and ignorant. Rhetorical questions from me. I know that he is in the pocket of fossil fuel giants. He does, however, need to learn that there are no wild penguins in the Northern Hemisphere.

Stay safe out there in the coming winter storm my friends. Stock up. Prepare. Stay home and stay as warm as possible.

Take care.
