"The Glutton" was the nickname of Louise Weber, the famous can-can dancer of the Moulin Rouge in Montmartre, Paris. At age 16 she started dancing in the dance halls of Paris. She became known for her shameless and outrageous performances. She use to empty the glasses of the audience as she danced past their tables, earning her nickname. In Montmartre, she also met Renoir who introduced her to nude modelling for artists and photographers. She was an immediate hit when she started dancing at the Moulin Rouge. As the "Queen of the Can-Can" she became a popular subject of some of the most famous paintings and posters of Henri de Toulouse Lautrec.
In 1895 she left the Moulin Rouge to start her own show, travelling through France. The show was a failure. She was drinking heavily, gained a lot of weight and suffered from depression. She returned to Montmartre in 1928 trying to make a living by selling peanuts, cigarettes and matches on the street. She died a year later. Her grave is in the Cimetiere de Montmartre, Paris.
Titus 1:10-16 (ANIV)
10 For there are many rebellious people, mere talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group. 11 They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 Even one of their own prophets has said, "Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons." 13 This testimony is true. Therefore, rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith 14 and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the commands of those who reject the truth. 15 To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. 16 They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.
DRAWING NOTES:
TIME OF DAY:
Unspecified in Bible text.
LIGHTING NOTES:
Light from the right casts shadows to the left in this scene.
CHARACTERS PRESENT:
From left to right: a woman in a mask & a man having his mask taken off - these are representative of the “mere talkers & deceivers” mentioned in verse 10. Titus (in blue, unmasking the man), two fellow Christians, a man & a woman holding her baby.
RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
The cartoon illustration for this scene was inspired from reading Adam Clarke’s: A commentary & critical notes. He wrote the phrase “Unmask them at once;” in relation to verse 11, which really grabbed my attention, & provides the central action for the scene: Titus unmasking one of the rebellious talkers & deceivers. Below is the excerpt from Adam Clarke’s commentary:
“Whose mouths must be stopped—Unmask them at once; exhibit them to the people; make manifest their ignorance and hypocrisy; and let them be confounded before the people whom they are endeavoring to seduce.” - Adam Clarke’s: A commentary & critical notes.
A note about the Bible in this scene.
Although I have the Christian man holding a Bible, the book of the Bible didn’t actually exist at this early time in church history. Nevertheless I have illustrated the man holding a Bible (in bound book form), as a symbolic reference to his faith: the easiest way to visually identify a Christian in my work is to have a person carry a Bible, even if they didn’t exist yet!
“The oldest extant copy of a complete Bible is an early 4th-century parchment book preserved in the Vatican Library, and known as the Codex Vaticanus. The oldest copy of a complete Latin (Vulgate) Bible is the Codex Amiatinus, dating from the 8th century.”

Who was Titus?
“honourable, was with Paul and Barnabas at Antioch, and accompanied them to the council at Jerusalem ( Galatians 2:1-3 ; Acts 15:2 ), although his name nowhere occurs in the Acts of the Apostles. He appears to have been a Gentile, and to have been chiefly engaged in ministering to Gentiles; for Paul sternly refused to have him circumcised, inasmuch as in his case the cause of gospel liberty was at stake. We find him, at a later period, with Paul and Timothy at Ephesus, whence he was sent by Paul to Corinth for the purpose of getting the contributions of the church there in behalf of the poor saints at Jerusalem sent forward ( 2 Corinthians 8:6 ; 12:18 ). He rejoined the apostle when he was in Macedonia, and cheered him with the tidings he brought from Corinth ( 7:6-15 ). After this his name is not mentioned till after Paul's first imprisonment, when we find him engaged in the organization of the church in Crete, where the apostle had left him for this purpose ( Titus 1:5 ). The last notice of him is in 2 Timothy 4:10 , where we find him with Paul at Rome during his second imprisonment. From Rome he was sent into Dalmatia, no doubt on some important missionary errand. We have no record of his death. He is not mentioned in the Acts.”

Although the New Testament contains this letter from the apostle Paul to Titus, his name occurs most often in 2 Corinthians (10 times), twice in Galatians, once in 2 Timothy & once in the book addressed to Titus. Paul calls Titus his brother (2 Corinthians 2:13) and his true son (Titus 1:4.)

Georg Emanuel Opiz (4 April 1775, Prague - 12 July 1841, Leipzig) was a Bohemian German painter and graphic artist. He also wrote some now-forgotten historical novels, under the pseudonym "Bohemus".
His father, Johann Ferdinand Opiz (1741–1812), was a tax official who also worked as a writer and magazine editor, and carried on a correspondence with Giacomo Casanova.[1] His mother, Louise Philippine, was a great niece of the explorer, Engelbert Kaempfer. His brother was the botanist, Philipp Maximilian Opiz.
The Glutton
After completing his secondary education in Prague, he took a law degree, while studying drawing and painting in his spare time. In 1793, he continued those studies at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, where his primary instructor was Giovanni Battista Casanova, Giacomo's brother.
In 1798, he made his living by painting the wealthy guests at the spa in Karlsbad. Around 1800, he was in Hamburg and Bremen then, from 1801 to 1803, in Vienna. It was there he created his Scenes from the Street and Folk Life of Franciscan Vienna (a reference to Emperor Francis I). Some of these were made into etchings by Kilian Ponheimer [de], among others, and established his reputation as a genre artist. His style was influenced by William Hogarth and Daniel Chodowiecki.[2]
In 1805, he and his wife settled in Leipzig, where he produced portrait miniatures. In 1814, following the War of the Sixth Coalition, he went to Paris to create and sell etchings related to the Coalition's victory. He apparently remained there until 1817, when he returned to Leipzig and created a series of etchings on life in Paris, published by F. A. Brockhaus. From 1818 to 1830, he worked as an engraver for the magazine Urania, also published by Brockhaus. Numerous erotic etchings have been attributed to him.
His major publication, Character Scenes from Life in Paris, with twenty-four colored etchings, appeared in 1819. During the 1820s, he produced watercolors which suggest that he visited Russia and the Ottoman Empire. In the latter part of the 1820s, he became a Professor at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig. During this period, his well-known Leipziger Messe Scenes were published in Dresden.

The following sequence is not recommended, unless you are a glutton for punishment. I was mistaken in my assessment that in order to remove the mount assembly cover, I had to partially disassemble the shutter appurtenances that were in the way. NOT! The proper way to get the cover off is to remove the shutter assembly in it's entirety, which I did in the opposite order when putting the camera back together. So much easier that way. I included the photos of this process because you may need to remove these items at some time while doing repairs to the shutter assembly, if you are that adventurous.
Removal of PC sync 1.
I've removed the two screws that hold the external portion of the sync to the shutter body. One is brass, the other is black steel.

Regarding gluttony in all forms: gluttony in needing possessions, in spending too much time and money on silly or distasteful things, in drinking, in living.
Gluttony is a complex process that creates habitual greed & need for excess.

The Daily Bread Of Grace
"And his allowance was a continual allowance given him of the king, a daily rate for every day, all the days of his life." [2 Kings 25:30]
Jehoiachin was not sent away from the king’s palace with a store to last him for months, but his provision was given him as a daily pension. Herein he well pictures the happy position of all the Lord’s people. A daily portion is all that a man really wants. We do not need tomorrow’s supplies; that day has not yet dawned, and its wants are as yet unborn. The thirst which we may suffer in the month of June does not need to be quenched in February, for we do not feel it yet; if we have enough for each day as the days arrive we shall never know want. Sufficient for the day is all that we can enjoy. We cannot eat or drink or wear more than the day’s supply of food and raiment; the surplus gives us the care of storing it, and the anxiety of watching against a thief. One staff aids a traveller, but a bundle of staves is a heavy burden. Enough is not only as good as a feast, but is all that the greatest glutton can truly enjoy. This is all that we should expect; a craving for more than this is ungrateful. When our Father does not give us more, we should be content with his daily allowance. Jehoiachin’s case is ours, we have a sure portion, a portion given us of the king, a gracious portion, and a perpetual portion. Here is surely ground for thankfulness. In matters of grace we need a daily supply. We have no store of strength. Day by day we must seek help from above. It is a very sweet assurance that a daily portion is provided for us. In the word, through the ministry, by meditation, in prayer, and waiting upon God we shall receive renewed strength. [Isa.40:31]. In Jesus all needful things are laid up for us. Then enjoy our continual allowance. Never go hungry while the daily bread of grace is on the table of mercy. Amen, hallelujah God bless
