The wolverine, also referred to as the glutton, carcajou, skunk bear, or quickhatch (from East Cree, kwiihkwahaacheew), is the largest land-dwelling species of the family Mustelidae.
It is a stocky and muscular carnivore, more closely resembling a small bear than other mustelids. It has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times larger than itself.
The wolverine is found primarily in remote reaches of the Northern boreal forests and subarctic and alpine tundra of the Northern Hemisphere, with the greatest numbers in Northern Canada, the American state of Alaska, the mainland Nordic countries of Europe, and throughout western Russia and Siberia.
Geologically this hill is the remains of an atoll ( a reef knoll ) which is believed to have existed during the Carboniferous period when what is now the Peak District was covered by a tropical sea.
This glutton was a very confiding bird. Other years I have found them out of the nest, and they have been as wild as a Hawk as you would expect. As soon as the foster parent had delivered a meal, the Cuckoo would peck it, to send it on its way again, for another huge mouthful. This taken in Suffolk.
I had to leave after an hour of this epic battle to swallow this huge fish. The glutton either choked or sunk I imagine in its desire for a somewhat hearty meal. Lackford.

Received another call this afternoon that the Elephant caterpillar was back among the Fuchsias,
we followed him a bit , gosh what a glutton that caterpillar eats them a leaf in no time, beautiful to see, show more of this beautiful insect tomorrow

As I neared the summit of Parkhouse, I saw the only other soul out on this area, stood on the summit. He had a small dog with him and I presumed he had made the climb up from the (West) Chrome Hill side as I hadn't seen anyone making the climb up on the East side from Glutton Bridge.
I took this shot, showing the final slope and the shapely Chrome Hill behind the walker, before I joined him on the top. The climb up was pretty slippy and I asked him how things were on the West side before I started the descent. He said, "oh that's much worse, it's lethal"! Hmm, not what I wanted to hear from the "Dragonslayer".
These hills are often referred to as the "Dragons Back", as they are Carboniferous Reef Knolls from ancient sea beds. The resistant Limestone has been left to form these shapely beasts with the softer sedimentary rocks that surrounded these ancient coral reefs having been eroded away.

The hills and foothills in the background are all in Derbyshire but the valley is completely in Staffordshire.
Sometimes even garden pests can be amazing when you really look closely! This tobacco hornworm may be an unwelcome visitor to your tomato plants, but it is definitely a beautiful critter. Sort of. When it’s done being a tomato plant glutton, it morphs into a lovely moth that resembles a hummingbird, and only sips nectar.

Note: I let this one go, out in my yard, to take his chances. I figure he (it…they develop their gender during the pupal stage) was such a good sport for letting me handle him to take the pic.

For many generations the Anasazi were hard taskmasters over the Diné, forcing them to carry wood and corn on their backs for long distances and perform menial acts of service. Eventually, a large and handsome man came from the east, appearing to 'rise out of where the sky and earth join together. He carried with him a long rod or staff. When he came amongst the Diné, he saw how they were being treated by the people who dwelt in the stone houses in the cliffs north of the San Juan River and he was very much displeased.' he told them to stop this harsh treatment, but they replied they were 'the greatest people in the world' and would do as they pleased. The stranger counselled the Diné that at the next moon they should prepare a feast of turkeys, rabbits, corn, paper bread, and other delicacies and serve it at places on the south bank of the San Juan and Little Colorado rivers. They sent runners to the cliff dwellers, who were 'great gluttons' and responded in large numbers. 'They were first to cross from along the north bank of the San Juan River as the feast was spread along the south bank for a distance of about four miles, and as the horde of cliff dwellers came forward to take part in the feast, they rushed to cross the river.' The stranger waited until they were in the middle of the river, then raised his arm to the level of his chest, twice waved his rod, and uttered some magic words. The Anasazi turned into fish instantly. He then faced westward and southwestward, pointed his rod in each direction, said the same magic words, and all the remaining cliff dwellers were struck with lockjaw and paralysis of the arms and the legs. They died within four days. By then, the Diné had eaten the feast they had prepared.

The instantly recognisable peaks of Chrome hill and Parkhouse hill in the Upper Dove valley, Derbyshire. Literally the first few shots I captured on the way up to the higher views, I didn't want the mist to disappear before I had chance to photograph it so I took a 2 shot pano and had a breather too.

This was just a random & quick edit. ♡
Not to be confused with "Piltdown Man", Parkhouse Man stood on the summit for what seemed like hours. He had watched me make my climb up from the Glutton Bridge side and join him and his dog on the summit of Parkhouse Hill. After a short chat I then descended the side you can see here and made my way along the route to climb Chrome Hill.
When I stopped at this point I could still see he was on the summit. There was no one else at all on this route. After climbing Chrome I made my way back here and I passed him and the dog just below this spot, not sure if he had been flying a drone up on Parkhouse or if he was just happy to take the view in for such a long time!
Anyway, he made a fine subject and gave the hill some sort of scale in this image.
