Kugeldisteln (Echinops sphaerocephalus) im Gegenlicht, hatte auf ein paar Tropfen vom nächtlichen Regen an der Blüte gehofft, aber die sind schon alle verdampft ! _ hoped for some droplets from the rain last night on the bloom, but they all are vaporized immidiately
If there's anything I like better than old maps, it's old globes! This 19th century beauty is in the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library at Phillips Academy, Andover
Globe amaranth is an all-time flower-gardening favorite. It seems to have it all -- it thrives in hot conditions, it blooms nearly nonstop, the interesting pom-pom flowers are great for cutting and drying, and it attracts butterflies
We heard that the CSCL Globe, the world's biggest container vessel had docked in berths 8 and 9 at Felixstowe, so we went round to take a butchers. At 400m in length, it's as long as The Shard is tall and can carry over 19,000 ISO Containers.

This was a neat feature of the new Sant Ocean Hall exhibit at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington, D.C. Here's a clip of the exhibit.
The Babson World Globe, originally dedicated in 1955, refurbished and rededicated on October 2, 1993. It was for many years the largest rotating globe in the world and the second-largest one ever built (28 feet in diameter, weighing 25 tons).
The orginal Babson Globe was constructed of panels with enameled surface for the land & water details. The panels eventually began rusting off. When the globe was rebuilt, DeLorme provided vinyl (much lighter) panels for the visual details.
This globe stands in front of Coleman Hall which once housed the Great Relief Map - a 65-foot plaster of Paris model of the lower 48 states which accurately matched the curvature of the earth3-D. The map was removed in 1998 to allow for the conversion of the building into residences for students.
Babson College is a private business school located in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

I had some 14-inch latex balloons and decided to try making globe ice lanterns. Fitting the opening over a laundry room faucet, I put some water into the balloon, then removed it and blew in a little air, then held the neck of the balloon closed while pulling the end over the faucet again and filling the balloon to perhaps 10 inches in diameter. I tied the end and put the knot-end down in a bowl of about the same diameter, in which I had placed a wide rubber stopper that indented the bottom of the balloon (destined to be the top), so that there would be an area that didn't freeze over. The air in the balloon allowed the water to freeze flat on top, so that there would be a wide stable base for the lantern to sit on.

My gone-to-seed red onions in the garden. I should dig them out but I love seeing them in flower.
Softly flypaper textured.
