Meet Beggy-boogoo (my kids' name for any and all bugs--and apparently they like french toast). This little bugger (ha) I found chilling out on a pepper plant in my MIL's vegetable plot. I suppose I should have moved him, but he looked so cool that I took a few pictures and forgot that he was technically the bad guy. Plus this guy was enormous, which made him cooler...he had certainly been taking more than his fair share of my MIL's open salad bar. I'm usually not one to get close up with bugs, and to be honest this picture makes me slightly squeamish, but I am fascinated with the defense 'eyes' and it's mouth. Multiple pincers for teeth? Pretty awesome/freaky.

JOHNSTON – It’s no small wonder that the importance of being proficient in literacy has taken center stage in Iowa’s schools. The emphasis on third grade literacy isn’t random: it’s a time when students begin reading to learn, as opposed to simply learning to read.
Perhaps more important is that studies show if students are weak in literacy by the fourth grade, they stand a much greater chance of doing poorly throughout their educational career, including possibly dropping out of school in later years.
As districts work to improve literacy rates, one need look no further than Johnston Community School District as a model. . Take a school there – any school – and you will find solid practices at work. Indeed, nearly 90 percent of the district’s students are proficient in literacy. And the all-important third graders? An impressive 90.1 percent, which compares to the statewide proficiency rate of 76.8 percent.
Downtown Bristol Clock Gets a Facelift 3-29-21
For the past 4 years, the clock has undergone a number of updates, from the internal workings to installation of new glass. Previous Town Clerk Mary Ryman had wanted to see the clock updated, and she began the plans to do so. After she retired, Deputy Clerk Jill Swartz followed up to finish the project and finally get the gold lettering "Town of Bristol" replaced. In Sept. 1989, Ameritrust National Bank Michiana & Mike Stoll of Reproductions Technologies (who had bought the old store building in 1977 and ran his business there until 2008), got a quote to have clock installed and donated to the town in 1989. Stoll made a request Oct 12, 1989 to install it in front of his building, and the Town had no objection. The clock was originally made by the Verdin Co. of Cincinnati Ohio. Air Brush of Cincinnati, a contractor of Verdin Co. was selected in 2021 to restore the lettering. Artist Barbara Kelsey, and her husband Don, owners of Air Brush of Cincinnati and affiliates of Verdin, came to Bristol on Monday, March 29, 2021, to do the work on a chilly afternoon. Once again, the old clock welcomes passersby on SR 120 to the Town of Bristol. Just the Facts: The “Old Store” is a relic of the riverboat era. Located high on the bank overlooking the St. Joseph River since the 1840’s, The building was once known as the H.B. App & Sons Co and sold a variety of items, Later known as the King Store, residents remember shopping forgroceries there until the early 1970s. After Stoll closed his business in 2008, Stoned Soup Emporium opened a soda fountain and antique and crafters business until 2013. The building was then sold to a new owner.
lola and elliott are pierre and gaelle's kids. they are smart and sweet, they have large reserves of energy, and they're completely bilingual. (in this video you can hear lola switching back and forth between english and what todd calls her 'gibberish.')
apparently one of the things lola and elliott liked about living in the u.s. was the way that adults interact with kids. american adults let kids con them into playing with light sabers.
