Sunday Market in the Old Cromwell town, January 25, 2015 New Zealand, on our Journey to Queenstown.
The construction of the Clyde Dam and subsequent filling of Lake Dunstan in the 1980's brought major changes to Cromwell. Gone were two wild rivers... but there is now a beautiful new lake with many shoreline amenities. Acres of orchards were lost. .. but Cromwell has since become the fruit and wine centre of the south. Cromwell's original commercial area was drowned... but there is now a pleasant new town centre with modern facilities.
However, the old town centre with its historic bridge has not been forgotten!
Old Cromwell Incorporated was formed to do something positive about this loss, and the result is a splendid reminder of days gone by! While there is a lot of work yet to be done, many of the original town buildings have already been either restored or reconstructed . History lives on! And authenticity is the key word ... have a close look at the workmanship.
Nowadays, Old Cromwell Town is home to local craftspeople and a cafe. Enjoy a stroll around this historic precinct located at the end of Melmore Terrace. A great place to find that special memento of you r holiday. Open every day, entry is free.
The Central Otago Farmers Market is held here every Sunday running from the first Sunday in November until last Sunday in February. Enquire at the Information Centre about various other events held during the year.
And the bridge? It's still there, under 11m of water! There is a rum our that a Mk I Zephyr is still parked on it. Did you bring your SCUBA gear?

I came across this painting in a gallery in Bali. The Balinese dancers are getting ready to perform. Artist unknown. I just loved it. The painting was showing signs of wear, so I added the texture you see in CS5. This would make a nice desktop wallpaper.

The most common spider is that we have here is the Redback spider. How to identify a spider? The Redback spider has got a red line in the back of the body which is the abdomen and basically that's one way of identifying that particular spider.
Then you got the White tail spider which is going to white tip on the back of its abdomen. The huntsman is a hairy brownish colour depending on what's the process of this life is going through and they do vary in sizes.
Now going back to the Redback spider- very very common problem to us. I have had a client that actually a plumber, he actually young got bitten by red back way and he left his boots outside the house and he's put his boots on and he got beaten on toes, so that was yet a tragedy therefore inside you got all the right medication so he's all good now.
It is very important that we identify a spider before we do any treatments or anything that we need to do to fix these problems. So then you got the white tail spider who are venomous, so we need to be extremely careful what pest and what particular spider are we dealing with.
The White tail spider once again varies between 20 to 35 millimetres in size, that’s between the male and the female. Definitely a spider, which lives on other insects and they don’t web of course, so you do found in different areas for the home.
Linen is the most common one in bedding, sheets, cupboards and so forth.

I have a friend coming in to town in a couple days. I thought I'd stock up on some beer, and I bought 2 20 packs, thinking I'd take a pic to send to him. 40 beers sounds like a lot, but I couldn't get the pic to be as impressive as it should've been. Add some strobisty goodness, and it makes for a nice photo. Granted, I didn't get all 40.
P.S. The black above the bottles is sloppily painted in photoshop. The umbrella shot light everywhere.

Day five of our fast trip around the South Island with my friends from the UK. November 5, 2013 New Zealand.
Milford Sound (Māori: Piopiotahi) is a fjord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island, within Fiordland National Park, Piopiotahi (Milford Sound) Marine Reserve, and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. It has been judged the world's top travel destination in an international survey (the 2008 Travelers' Choice Destinations Awards by TripAdvisor) and is acclaimed as New Zealand's most famous tourist destination. Rudyard Kipling had previously called it the eighth Wonder of the World.
Milford Sound is named after Milford Haven in Wales, while the Cleddau River which flows into the sound is also named for its Welsh namesake. The Māori named the sound Piopiotahi after the thrush-like piopio bird, now extinct. Piopiotahi means "a single piopio", harking back to the legend of Māui trying to win immortality for mankind - when Maui died in the attempt, a piopio was said to have flown here in mourning.
Milford Sound runs 15 kilometres inland from the Tasman Sea at Dale Point (also named after a location close to Milford Haven in Wales) - the mouth of the fiord - and is surrounded by sheer rock faces that rise 1,200 metres (3,900 ft) or more on either side. Among the peaks are The Elephant at 1,517 metres (4,977 ft), said to resemble an elephant's head, and The Lion, 1,302 metres (4,272 ft), in the shape of a crouching lion.
Milford Sound sports two permanent waterfalls all year round, Lady Bowen Falls and Stirling Falls. After heavy rain however, many hundreds of temporary waterfalls can be seen running down the steep sided rock faces that line the fiord. They are fed by rain water drenched moss and will last a few days at most once the rain stops.
With a mean annual rainfall of 6,813 mm (268 in) on 182 days a year, a high level even for the West Coast, Milford Sound is known as the wettest inhabited place in New Zealand and one of the wettest in the world. Rainfall can reach 250 mm (10 in) during a span of 24 hours. The rainfall creates dozens of temporary waterfalls (as well as a number of major, more permanent ones) cascading down the cliff faces, some reaching a thousand metres in length. Smaller falls from such heights may never reach the bottom of the sound, drifting away in the wind.
Accumulated rainwater can, at times, cause portions of the rain forest to lose their grip on the sheer cliff faces, resulting in tree avalanches into the sound. The regrowth of the rain forest after these avalanches can be seen in several locations along the sound.
