Not just getting to Rotterdam, but getting there when it comes to constructing a whole new train station! After three years of building, a few new platforms and part of the roof are finished. A great place to have some fun with a fisheye lens! But I can't wait to see it actually finished in 2013 :-)

On a walk part way around the Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park April 7, 2014 Christchurch New Zealand.
Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park is a lowland freshwater wetland, located in the midst of an urban environment. It offers a number of easy walkways and viewing areas, with opportunities to see many bird species and plant communities. The walking tracks are suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs and there are a number of opportunities to take a rest on seats along the way.
There is an information kiosk and the nearby education centre provides a laboratory, educational facility and meeting space for groups. Travis Wetland is a site where education programmes are available for schools through the Learning Through Action programme to promote ecological values.
The Travis Wetland covers 116 hectares of recently retired land surrounded by urban subdivision, and was purchased by the Christchurch City Council in 1996 in response to public demand. Previously farmed and drained, the area is now being managed as a Nature Heritage Park.
Fifty-five species of birds, including 35 natives, have been recorded at the wetland. Travis is the most important freshwater wetland for birds in Christchurch, supporting about half the total Christchurch pukeko population. An indigenous skink, the native short-fined eel and possibly the Canterbury mudfish are present in the wetland. Travis also supports healthy populations of a diverse variety of insects. As the diversity of habitat develops, additional species are expected to occur.
Nearly 80 per cent of pre-European native wetland plant species are present in the wetland, including a number of species now rare on the Canterbury Plains. These include the only substantial stand of manuka, a species of spider orchid and a native sundew, which are regionally vulnerable.
Invasive weeds reduce the native plant diversity. Volunteers and contractors are eliminating species such as female grey willow, blackberry, gorse and grass from botanically sensitive areas.

I took my photos of Smalls Falls in Maine this past August with a different perspective from my first visit there in 2007. Last years photos were taken from a footbridge and this year, I wanted a different angle.
The water was cold (It was cold enough that day for me to wear a jacket) and the rocks were slippery but I didn't fall (my biggest worry - I would have dried - the camera wouldn't have). I did drop my remote shutter release into the water on the way in though. It worked again after I let it dry for two days :-).
BTW, I couldn't feel my feet for quite a while after finishing my photos. It made walking out of the falls interesting, lol.
I'll be posting my photos of the waterfall next. This one was taken by my husband who also uses a 40D

I sort of did a post and run the other night, however not intentional. My internet was terribly out of whack - either that or Flickr was just playing with my head - and I could hardly comment or move from photo to photo without begging the computer Gods for help. Anyway, then I got busy and now I'm just getting back home and settled in.
Will start getting caught up tonight and I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

Another shot of the GBH aggression displays. They never actually made contact with each other, but there was a fair amount of vocalization and much flaring of feathers and wings.
i find myself slow to get into the Christmas spirit this year, and, like most Americans, i imagine, i find myself with a heavy heart. as i sort through many of my pictures, which have gone a year or two piling up unsorted, i find myself especially drawn to the photographs of children, their faces fresh, innocent, unmarred by the horrors of modernity. i wonder sometimes if my interest in older images is not some sort of escape, a turning away from the now. to be honest, i find much modern culture cheap and tawdry. as i don't eat @ fast food restaurants, so i don't watch commercial tv, read popular fiction, or play video games (sort of liked PacMan, i'll admit, and i always liked the idea (whatever it was) of Donkey Kong.)
anyway, i picked up this photo and noticed the glowing heart. don't remember that, or much else about this image. don't remember where i found it. anyway, i like it.
i pray that the peace of Christmas might spread around the world, just for a little while. i have been much at odds with many of my countrymen this year --- here's praying we find a bit of common ground in 2013.

A week away from the noise, living in TMM, always seems to do the trick. Disconnecting helps to put so much into perspective.

A westbound Metra work train rolls along the Elgin Subdivision in Wood Dale. NIRC SW1500 5 brings a "shoving platform" and some ballast cars along the former Milwaukee Road.

Shot on my Leica M Monochrom CCD with Thambar LTM 9cm, mostly without spot filter. First time taking it out and experimenting. I like the look at around f/8. Shot wide open takes more practice to get it right. But I like the challenge this lens imposes.
Part of the Re:Start container mall has moved to the other side because a new Retail Precinct develops and permanent buildings are built this space.

We rode the Rhätische Bahn on the Bernina Express from Chur to Samedan. I took this photo out the open window as the train crossed a stone trestle toward one of the many tunnels on this route.
In 2008, UNESCO named the Rhätische Bahn and a section of this route a World Heritage Site. You can read more about it here .

The birds of paradise are just waiting for the organisers to work out the details for the formation of the number 21 taped out on the pavement . The plan is to have the group with extras dressed in red shirts intermingled with professional samba dancers dance their way in to form the numbers with the birds of paradise bringing up the rear of the line . Part of an advertisement for Gold Lotto's 21 million dollar super draw .
That reminds me to go and get a ticket .
