GIS is a mapping-based, decision tool system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data. FORT BELVOIR NORTH AREA, Va. -- Letitia A. Long, director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), speaks to guests during the NGA Change of Director ceremony here Aug. 9, 2010. Long assumed leadership of the agency from U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Robert B. Murrett. She comes to NGA from the Defense Intelligence Agency, where she served as the deputy director from May 2006 until July 2010. The ceremony was held on the site of NGA Campus East (NCE), a 2005 Base Realignment and Closure project which will consolidate various offices of NGA into a single campus here. (RELEASED) Sept. 23, 2009 -- A steelworker (bottom center) works on what will become the floor of the atrium between the north and south wings of the Main Office Building at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency New Campus East project site at Fort Belvoir North Area, Va. The scaffolding shown in the background is being used by workers installing the atrium roof. Once enclosed, the atrium will join the north and south wings.
