On August 6, 2015, some of Houston’s most generous philanthropists gathered for the second annual University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Santa Fe reception. The event was hosted by attorney and past Development Board Chairman Julius Glickman and his wife Suzan at the exclusive Club at Las Campanas in Santa Fe, N.M.

Approximately 60 guests turned out to enjoy the beautiful New Mexico landscape and to hear the Director of the Center for Autoimmunity and Immunobiology at UTHealth, Dr. John Reveille. Reveille — a world-renowned physician and scientist in rheumatology — speak on living with arthritis and other autoimmune illnesses in a seminar titled “When Your Body Turns Against You.”

These were given to me by the lovely Marilyn/Spiced Coffee as ANOTHER gift along with our swap. She has already been overwhelmingly generous and I was just speechless when I opened up my package today.

Isn't it nice when people are nice?!

Generous support from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs enabled the Armory to partner with Proyecto Pastoral and Homeboy to present free art making classes for children and teens in Boyle Heights. This year, young people developed their creative voices in Armory Teaching Artist-led art courses which were provided virtually this year in response to the pandemic. Thank you, Department of Cultural Affairs, for helping make this great program happen! Click below and enjoy these highlights from the 2020-21 program.

We had a coat/clothing drive at work for our agency, Capital Area Head Start. Everyone was so very generous. SSD Fire had to get into the mix of things. This image, from her music video 'Generous' (2017), shows the then 20-year-old blonde American actress and singer Olivia Holt in a most flattering hotel chambermaid costume. She is wearing a short, frilly white apron over a black, short-sleeve minidress with white collar and cuffs. She is also wearing a frilly, white cap with black trim and black, stiletto-heel shoes. This outfit shows off her lovely legs to great effect! In this image, she is reclining on the bed of a hotel room with a tray of food and drink in front of her. She has obviously helped herself to the contents of the room's minibar! The video can be watched at, for example:

Steve was our neighbour for the past 6 years. He was a very talanted and generous person. He loved Buchart Gardens and spoke 4-5 languages fluently. He was a teacher and had traveled to many interesting places. He had incredible knowledge of classical music and was an amazing composer. He wrote quite a few piano pieces for Madalyn for her birthday and Christmas (which he is playing for her in this photo) and an anniversary piece for my husband and I. Steve never forgot anyone's Birthday so he waited for his own so he could go out in style. IT was Steve's time to go....and he was ready this time.... God must have needed a new pianist and he sure is in for a treat!!!

REASON SEASON OR LIFETIME

By: Brian A. "Drew" Chalker

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON. . . It is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are! They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrong doing on your part, or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered. And now it is time to move on.

Then people come into your life for a SEASON. Because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They bring you an experience of peace, or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

THANK YOU for being a part of my life.

On Saturday, 3 February 2018 Veronica-Clibborn Dyer generously invited RAS members to visit her beautiful garden and adjacent buildings with Kwun Yam and Shing Wong Temples and a small museum of local field and lifestyle artifacts including deity ceramics.

In 1996, Veronica Clibborn-Dyer and her late husband Ron, formerly a HK policeman, discovered a run-down property in the hills above Nam Chung in HK’s far north-east, overlooking Starling Inlet. Some good detective work and the lucky find of a scrap of paper with a UK phone number on it enabled them to finally identify the owner and background of the building and eventually an arrangement was established whereby they became live-in caretakers of the property. This involved years of hard labour by Ron and Veronica, clearing out a lot of old rubbish, since the place had been a refuge for women, mostly retired amahs who had nowhere else to go once their working lives were over. As well as cleaning up the property to make a home and conserve the place, Veronica and Ron created the most wonderful garden in the terraced grounds. With its beauty and charm, plus its position amid some of HK’s most stunning scenery, their Temple of Peace and Tranquility is truly a special and unique place.

At the top of the nearby hill is a pavillion dedicated to the memory of Sir Edward Youde, Governor of Hong Kong from 198 to 1986. From this viewing point there are views of Sha Tau Kok, Starling Inlet and the Yantian district of Shenzhen in mainland China.

0️⃣0️⃣3️⃣5️⃣5️⃣4️⃣ Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

.

The Prophet (ﷺ) was the most generous of all the people, and he used to become more generous in Ramadan when Gabriel met him. Gabriel used to meet him every night during Ramadan to revise the Qur'an with him. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) then used to be more generous than the fast wind.

It is always moving to witness the kind generosity and thoughtfulness displayed by The Lost Dogs’ Home’s donors. It is from these wonderful people that we receive the much-needed money, pet food, warm winter blankets, chewy toys, enthusiastic involvement and unyielding support that we need to help the thousands of cats and dogs that pass through our gates every year. We thank each and every one from the bottom of our hearts.

However once in a while The Lost Dogs’ Home will meet a donor who is willing to go the extra mile and blow us all away with their kindness. Sue is such a donor.

Since first becoming affiliated with The Lost Dogs’ Home over six years ago, Sue has become something of our ‘Christmas Angel’, bringing in a large bag of presents for the cats and dogs every year, as well as giving the Home a generous Christmas donation. What is most special is that Sue takes the time and care to individually wrap each gift, so not only the animals get to enjoy the wonderful treats but staff have the pleasure of unwrapping the gifts for them!

“I do it because I love animals so much, I almost think of them as human,” Sue explained. “I believe that they deserve to have a proper Christmas. My family put all the gift-wrapped presents down in front of my dogs and we let the animals paw at the presents. Seeing the expression on their faces and their excitement is just great.”

Having grown up in a home that bred championship-level Cocker Spaniels, Sue said her love of dogs began from a very early age. Her love of cats came later, and now Sue is well known in her community as the ‘go-to’ person whenever a cat or dog is missing.

“My next door neighbours’ kitten recently went missing the day before she was due to be microchipped,” Sue said. “They came running in saying, ‘Sue will know what to do! Sue will know what to do!’ and I was thinking, ‘how does Sue know what to do?’”

“As well as contacting the Lost Dogs’ Home, I got a photo of the kitten, printed off about 40 copies and went around my local area putting one in every letterbox. And that’s how the kitten was found.”

It’s this ability to put other’s needs before her own that makes Sue such an admired person amongst The Lost Dogs’ Home staff.

“She is a wonderful, kind person,” Fundraising Manager Kate Hoelter said. “I have actually never met someone with such a good soul. While she is very caring toward people, she just loves animals and would do anything for them.”

Sue credits her beloved uncle, who sadly passed away last year, as her role model in helping others.

“He was extraordinarily generous and always inspired me to do good things with my time and money,” Sue said. “Since he passed away, I’ve been trying to keep his good work going.”

If you would like to join Sue and support The Lost Dogs’ Home via a donation or any other means of giving, please see our website or call (03) 9329 2755.
