J and I were the only ones that walked the Golden Gate Bridge, and we only went to the first structure, shown here. It was really windy! As with much of the CA trip, I was constantly challenged to try to capture the majesty of the Golden Gate Bridge.

One post left and one wooden one added .Loco hauled trains are now hard to come by, just flask trains from Valley (37405/609). The only other loco hauled is the 0536 Holyhead - Cardiff, but that is a bit early!

The Strand Gate (also known as the East Gate and Watchbell Gate) was built around 1300 to protect the entrance from the harbour at the bottom of Strand Hill. It was at least a third higher than it is today, and incorporated two portcullises and a pair of gates. There was a porter’s lodge inside the northeastern tower, and a room for the portcullis winding gear on the first floor. The town wall joined the northwestern and southeastern towers. The Strand Gate incorporated decorative stonework, some of which is still visible, suggesting that it was seen as the main entrance into the town (as it is today). As with other buildings, the Strand Gate would have been rendered and whitewashed, while the decorative stonework would have been picked out in colour.

Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, CA - April 23, 2009

As I was hiking in the Gates Pass area of Tucson, Arizona I saw this girl in the distance admiring the scenery. I watched for a bit as she effected different positions. Finally she sat down and, without my direction, created this pose which was most photogenic.

Manchester's Chinatown gate.

It's quite something, just a dang shame you cant get a decent shot from any other position because of all the poles, wires, cars etc etc...

This decorated gate along a street catched my attention enough that I photographed it. Not quite sure what bird it is, but looks pretty cool.
