There's a boot visible under the gate... "Hullo ,can we help you?" "What are you doing?" "I'm taking pictures!" "Yes, but what of?" "Gates" "You like gates, do you?" (mutterings of each to his/her own!) "I think it says MS....K, at least that gate says MS and this one says K*" "Ah, so you like graffiti? would you like us to close the gates for you?" and they did!

Jaffa Gate marks the end of a road that led to Jerusalem from the ancient port of Jaffa and the beginning of one of two major axes that divide the Old City into four quarters. The gate, actually a gatehouse built 1530-40, has been an entry point into the Old City for western pilgrims for centuries. In 1898, the gate was opened and a road paved through it to allow Kaiser Wilhelm’s carriage to pass through.
