garden in the summer

Photo taken by Lilly Rice, Berea College Intern, Leah and Anna look at a photo that they have taken, 6/18/21

Clearing the ivy and dirt has revealed more stones in a step or possibly box formation. About 1/4 cleared, so much more still to do until we figure out the full extent.

View of part of the grounds. Salvaged from old photo stock.

Some photos I took of the day - which I have mounted and put up on display in our community hall. Some of these will be selected for our newsletter !

Yay! I win! This means I get to throw the frisbee.

Examples from various parts of the grounds and gardens.

Adapted ground feeder

The water feature will consist of four pools. Each one sitting at a higher level than the other. The lowest pool will be the largest and here you can see the area seperated off with wooden. I then filled it with hardcore and will put down a 15cm layer of concrete. Ive invested in a cement mixer (hired) to help mix the 2 tonnes of concrete required.

The gourd garden path on August 20, 2020

The August heat is baking everything except the hanging gourd garden, which has used it as an opportunity to fill out the overhead trellis with vines and fruit (so much it’s sagging in places).

L-R : Birdhouse, bowl and bottle gourds hanging from the overhead trellis

A couple of weeks ago I wasn’t sure which gourds were growing (I don’t label very well), but now that they’re dropping down, I can see that we’ve got the three B’s — birdhouse, bowl and bottle — gourds growing.

Looks like I’m going to have a gourd forest come fall.
