The reconstructed garden at Kenilworth, originally built by Robert Dudley (Earl of Leicester) for Elizabeth I. The original aviary was filled with all manner of exotic birds, but in today's eco-conscious world they're mainly finches.
What? Baby asparagus looks like baby Cthulhus.
This must be why Rob likes them so much. It's like eating PURE EVIL.
I took the opportunity to re-do the step from the drive into the garden. Previously the builders had done it so messily. Here I have used some facing bricks to neaten it up.

the plants in the red bath behind are bearded iris - browny colour from memory - they've lived for the last 9 years at my mum's place in the big white bath (now hidden around the side of the house to the right of this pic)

Now for the tomato seeds, we alternated home collected cherry tomato seed and bought seed for a dwarf red tomato... by this time the kids had prety much lost interest, we started before lunch and now it is mid afternoon...

Hodsock Priory near Blyth has a snowdrop tour every year. In spite of its name it was never a priory. And the gateway is the only authentic bit dating before the Victorian era.
So somehow, I managed to neglect that garden enough so that it no longer resembles the original state I found it. The giant manhood has gone though which I manged to do while cheered on by both sets of neighbours. Anyway three years have passed since I moved in and I have 2 weeks off work to get cracking...
