PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- Garrison Commander Col. Paul Fellinger dedicated a new Functional Fitness Training Facility inside the Price Fitness Center here April 7. The goal for the new facility is to provide a greater range of physical training options for service members at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center to achieve combat readiness. Funding for the facility was provided by local community activist Bud Colligan.

Let it be known that I am the type of person who almost always chooses function over style. After function, it's price. I had planned to get some generic snow boots (after all, who's looking at your boots when trudging through snow and shoveling your walkway?) and when I happened to be in the outlet, and these were $39, there just wasn't an excuse. Here's how you know they came from an outlet though. They're a size 9.5 I wear an 11. Then again, Timberlands and Nikes are the quirkiest, most inconsistent brands for accurate sizes. That's why my preference for non-sneaker kicks is ROCKPORTS!!!! And I 'gets' my Rocks at the outlet too.
I took them out of the box for the first time today to go out in the snow and shoot...and shovel the walkway and sidewalk. After all, I didn't buy them to be looked at!

The 4th annual earthquake functional exercise was conducted March 12 by U.S. Army Garrison Japan’s Directorate of Emergency Services. The exercise was held in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on the Camp Zama installation. For the first time, a Joint Information Center (JIC) was set up in the Camp Zama Army Community Service building by the U.S. Army Garrison Japan Public Affairs Office and a Mass Care Facility, set up at Yano Fitness Center by the Camp Zama Directorate of Family Moral, Welfare and Recreations. The HDPS is capable of performing complex heat treatments on sheet steel in controlled atmospheres before dipping in a bath of molten zinc alloy.
The HDPS allows us to investigate the interactions between the steel substrate and the coating before making changes in order to improve the final product. We are able to alter the chemistry of the bath to investigate the role of micro-additions on the microstructure and corrosion resistance of coatings.
This is the only HDPS in a European University and was built to our specification.

Here’s the bench in its functional glory. No finish yet. Not even all-together glued yet. Going to install a 4/4 shelf for slippers, flip-flops and such. Joinery is bigass wedged-thru-M&T. Totally sturdy, with no racking. The exposed tenons aren’t very pretty. Did the bore-and-pair method, which seemed prudent for thru-M&T. Dimensions - five feet wide, 15” deep, 17” tall

Whitby Goth Weekend is a bi annual Goth meet up, in the seaside town of Whitby in Yorkshire North England. Whitby is also the inspirational spark that lit the flames of writer Bram Stoker, to create the story of Dracula. Base on this Gothic heritage, along with Whitby Jet the Victorians were obsessed with, the WGW has became a global pilgrimage for many to celebrate Gothic style in a fashion context. That is Goth in its widest context incorporating, all its genres and sub cultures, including Steampunk. Images show people dressing up and posing for a photo, as they promenade around the towns cobbled streets. Many people make and create their own costumes, especially the steampunk looks where their items have working functionality.
Southall painted a series based on the folk tale of Beauty and the Beast. He painted in tempera – a mixture of egg yolk and powdered colours – a popular technique in 15th-century Italy. Southall liked the clear bright colouring it provided. It was painted in many layers of quick drying tempera and is full of beautiful details including the pigeons and the bracelet on Beauty’s arm.
