Images taken along the River Wey just below Guildford.
These are some of the first images taken whilst testing out a newly converted full-spectrum Lumix GX1. These were taken with a 590nm Infrared filter on the lens. They were R-B channel swapped in CS6 then processed in LR5.
So this is the 2nd sub-project of this HDR 360° IR panorama thing:

Actually, this turned out nicer than I thought it would, I like it! I also did a whole bunch of b&w and monochrome conversions off the final false-color development (I usually take a intermediate version for this, to have more room to play around) and it was a blast, no matter what I did, just everthing looked good.
That was fun, but I wanted to share the 'classic winter landscape' version, not sure yet if I will follow up with a b&w or sepia version..
Source for this are 21 HDR images (so 42 in total) but I used an equirectangular projection compared to the original to get the 8:5 crop that I wanted, yielding 9161 x 5726px, 52,5MP.

Today I received my full spectrum camera back and I took it for a testdrive around town. Playing with infrared and the IR Chrome filter gives some awesome results that I'm excited to explore.

Just for fun, from the time I (unsuccessfully) tried the IRG method with the fullspectrum D90. I left the tripod, and screwed on the R72 and did the pano a 2nd time, I'm surprised how well they fit, given that the number of images they are each made of is different. It appears that a precise crop is essential. I think one can really see the 'penetrating effect' of the deeper IR range (720nm, left, with the classic 'winter landscape' development), compared to the right side (~465nm), which is kinda cool. But the development as such obviously plays a big role too, apples vs. oranges, so.. whatever.
Technically, it's a 7 and a 6 piece pano, cylindrical stitch, blended and finished off with 14664 x 4240px, ~62,2MP.

This was taken along the River Wey below Bowers Lock. Shot with a Full Spectrum converted Lumix DMC-G1 with a 590nm IR filter fitted on the lens. This image is R-B swapped.
Ok, not that anybody cares, but why not make it official? I wanted to explore other wavelengths (than 720nm) in general for a while, especially some Aerochrome type IR imaging, if possible.
So this led to some minor (filters etc.) and a medium size upgrade: Welcome a fullspectrum Nikon D3300, the latest member of the family, and it's my first "entry level" body.
While I do understand some of the limitations it has, others I do not get, but that's a rant for another day. What I care most about is the sensor!, which I know quite well actually, cause my D7200 has the same.
Also, what this definitively showed was that my fullspec D90 I used so far is kind of unicorn, another rant for another day. The verdict whether the D3300 will completely supersede it, or if the D90 has to offer something special, due to it being a unicorn, is still out.
So the advent of the new body made me reinvent, or -discover my IR game completely and I'm in a testing and calibration frenzy for a while now. I do enjoy it for the most part, but it's a freakin' lot!, so I felt the need to throw myself out there over the weekend, do some explorative hikes in the sun while taking plenty of snapshots, hand held, easygoing, straightforward stuff, good fun.
Technically that's my "IRG setup", meaning suitable for the single photo IRG algorithm (JW Wong et al.) I finally managed to pull off, but there are lots of factors involved and the output isn't exactly as aesthetically pleasing as I want it to be, ..so far. That is the method in case you are curious or wanna give it a go:

However, an alternative development route kind of emerged out of the chaos which results immediately intrigued me, so of course I was doing that for a bit, to have fun and explore further. I will write about that another time; and share some more. What do you think of it? Cheers

This is not the picture I intended to take. My attention had been drawn at first by the dead tree.
Then, as I moved around it, I was taken by the visual interaction between the tree and another photographer who was crouched down in what was almost a prayerful position, photographing it from another angle. But because I usually keep a 2 second delay on my camera between the time I press the shutter button and when the shutter releases, serendipity can find its way in. In this case, during those 2 seconds the other photographer started to rise and pivot away from the tree. So I ended up with something else than my intention...maybe even a bit more interesting.

Sigma SD14 with 850nm filter bw edit with Sigma photo software, I had this idea to make the yellow black series in Infrared. Just when I had time to make pictures the sun was gone. I tried a few but then it started to rain. However the result is better than expected. I have pushed the contrast and light heavy but the result is getting close to what I had in mind.
Appraching this area, it was a seamless transition from meadow into a swamp type situation, but pretty though. Standing water with a cool breeze and only a trillion mosquitos, the sun was blazing outside, but under the tree top it was very shady, that's why the extended shutter speed.
I was not sure if it will work, cause the ground was pretty wobbly, but being the last pano of the day I apparently found the right procedure. I like the subtle reflection overlay on the water between these 'tree-islands', ..aand just found a (stitching) fault. But I'm not going to redo this, nope! 😜
Source for this is a 33 piece multi-row pano, counting 338MP with a mercator projection, down to 22146 x 13841px, ~306,5MP, and who-knows-what ratio.
