Well, that was fun. 😊 The source of this is one of these 'let's see how it turns out..' panoramas, where I don't expect much. I was on an exploring mission (a.k.a. infrared safari) and appeared on this small natural clearing, good lighting surrounded by trees, trees and trees, relatively close by.
So I produced a 360° pano with the usual technique and surprise, there were mostly trees 😜, and lots of foreground, I didn't aim for a vista or anything, yet there was this gap and some trees I 'used' for blocking the sun.
So I picked out this section and had some freewheeling fun with it, and here we are. Doesn't have to be 'serious infrared business' everytime, right?
Technically it's a 360° 27206 x 15297px ~416,2MP IR panorama, then 9244px ~85,5MP squared. Due to the ² format and Flickr's 'best display size', this lends itself to zooming in. Do it!
I also like how the hue of the flare goes a little bit towards orange.

I like this one best of this series, maybe because of the aspen in front of the spruce trees and the light on the hill to the left and the spread of the shadows through the valley. The mountains are secondary here.

That is a horizontal 16:10 crop, 19562 x 12226px (240,3MP), and a color development of this initial 360° panorama:

Unfortunately some parts of the sky are blown out, but there was just no way me even attempting to (exposure) bracket with shutter speeds that slow and that amount of images overall.

Nebulosa Rho Ophiuchi
Rho Ophiuchi Nebula
Yesterday I went to El Cabo de Gata, in Almería, specifically to the El Arrecife de las Sirenas.
My idea was to take a photo of the milky way, since the sky there is spectacular.
After taking the photo I had in mind, I thought about doing a deep sky photo and Rho Ophiuchi was my choice.

I hope you like it.
My wife & I had visited Grasmere 2 times and Langdale once and had planned to visit Loughrigg Tarn that is nestled between the two but for one reason or another we just didn't get around to it.
This time however we made it one of our priorities and upon leaving Grasmere to head to our hotel in Langdale we drove along the Red Bank which takes you from Grasmere to Elterwater and found a parking spot.
Upon arriving at the tarn I was amazed at how big it is compared to others i've seen previously as its more like a lake but oh my, what a scene! I remember the first time I ever seen the Langdale Pikes, wow...
Wainwrights descriptions sums it up perfectly.
"No mountain profile arrests and excites the attention more than that of the Langdale Pikes and no mountain group better illustrates the dramatic appeal of a sudden rising of the vertical from the horizontal; the full height from valley to summit is revealed at a glance in one simple abrupt upsurge to all travellers on the distant shore of Windermere and, more intimately, on the beautiful approach along Great Langdale. Nor is the appeal visual only: that steep ladder to heaven stirs the imagination, and even the emotions, and this is especially so whenever the towering peaks come into view suddenly and unexpectedly.."
They're slightly lost on the horizon in this pano due to the nature of wide angle lenses but in reality they command the horizon. On the right is Loughrigg Fell, another we have conquered in our short time fell walking. The other thing I love about this tarn is the lilly pads which hug the South Eastern shore.
When we first arrived the water was rippled by a breeze but as we patiently waited it suddenly calmed and gave a perfect reflection. I took shots with both my Canon 5D and the Panasonic G5 converted to Full Spectrum. I used the Heliopan RG665 filter for this one.
If you havn't been to Grasmere or Langdale I urge you to visit both places, they're just so beautiful!

I opened the 6 RAW files in Adobe Camera Raw and synced them so that any adjustments were made to the group rather than single files. I used a DNG profile to reset the custom White Balance then made some other minor adjustments.
Next I imported the files into Photoshop CS6 where I used the photomerge setting to stitch the shots into a panorama. I used the warp tool to pull the corners a tad so I wouldn't have to crop too much from the height then opened the shot in the Niksoft plugin Silver Efex Pro 2 to make the mono conversion.
After getting a result I was happy with I saved a Tiff and jpeg before using Tony Kuypers resize and sharpen for Facebook action.
In total within our 4 day stay we climbed Haystacks in Buttermere, Fairfield Horseshoe in Grasmere the next day which killed us lol. Then we visited this Tarn and Slater Bridge in Little Langdale then on the last day we climbed the Langdale Pikes in terrible conditions. It didnt stop raining once :[ All epic experiences though :D

The sky shows some banding, which are slight layers of haze. We have had exceptional weather since the new year with almost no clouds, which is fine against cabin-fever, but bad for photography.

While driving around Georgia, I have passed this huge mailbox several times. Today, however, I had my cameras with me, so I stopped and grabbed some shots using my full-spectrum converted Sony A55. It added a dreamy quality to it and so I thought this would be perfect for this week's Flickr Friday of #Dreamlike. It reminded me of a dream someone would have if they were waiting for a package or a college letter and such.
This image was taken in RAW using a full-spectrum converted camera with no filter and processed in Linux using RawTherepee.
As I was about to start my (multi hour) hike back down to my car in the valley, a being emerged, literally out of nowhere. 😮
It was otherworldly bright, but contrary to what it felt like, I wasn't blinded instantly, my eyes could somehow bare it.
At first I thought it was made out of light, but as it dialed down it's intensity for me, I could see that it was semitransparent and transforming itself constantly, sort of rotating, which made clear that it was inhabiting a multitude of dimensions. As an object in three-dimensional space, it didn't make any sense at all, words really start to fail here.
It was permanently emerging and proliferating in all directions like water from an invisible well in midair, but it somehow did not grow in size because it was also disappearing simultaneously.
And it was not only folding itself inside out and vice versa, it also seemed to fold the space around it too which made it look less like an object, but a dimensional swirl of some kind, ..it was a distinct non-object. ✨
As it began to telepathically transfer ALL the secrets of the universe into my mind, I totally lost the sense of time but as the download was complete, I noticed that an hour had passed.
Sorry peeps, I cannot tell you more about the fabric and ultimate meaning of existence, I think that's against the Flickr rules of conduct or something. 😛
I was very satisfied with all that knowing so I took a quick infrared panorama of this extradimensional being before it started to retract and since it was already getting late too, I decided to head back fast in order to not miss supper. 😋
Alright boys and girls, that was storytime for today, stay tuned till the next alien-tastic installment ..
(And no, I nor my infrared camera did not accidentally fall into a cowpat that had some mushrooms growing in it on this hike..)
