Duotone Experiments with fullspectrum camera and 665nm filter: This ist not really Infrared, so some false color is left which can be used in postprocessing. I like the bitone / duotone look a lot. No channel swap here, obviously, might be a second option.

2nd round / Fullspectrum Experiments:

More pictures! These are from the same last outing yesterday with the same camera, lens and filter setup. Here I applied „proper“ white balance (on the birches bark, simply) and look what I got. Again it's that almost velvia like green and high saturation over all. Actually this is what I found using UV-IR cut filters on this camera some time ago. I already experimentet with this - for some reason I need a diffusor, else I get some strange color artifacts on the edges. I don't know the physics really, but possibly it acts like an AA Filter? Anyway, this „film simulation“ is nice. When adding this Tiffen 812 like warming filter, blue gets subtle, too.

One more Fullspectrum Experiment:

I try to make the best of these days with the same subjects over and over again ... And I'm lucky I have a lot of things to do on my list: It's almost 2 years ago I got some rather strange IR-block filters.

Here I used the B+W #470. It's a blue-greenisch color, pretty dark. It's actually a technical filter, to be honest I didn't understand what exactly it was used for (maybe 40 years ago?), but I understand it blocks IR. On the Fullspectrum camera it's always easy to check this: If you see green more or less normally, IR is more or less blocked.

I needed to custom white balance there photos, again simply on the birches bark. A litte tweaking was necessary. What I get are very rich greens. Magenta comes bold, also, red is more subdued here, but it's not absent. I like the colors quite a bit, I tried to get away from a too extreme rendering, but still the cooler tones are somewhat dominant (or is it just me imagine that?)

I only used this one filter on a Minolta 70-210/4 (the manual focus variant of the famous beercan) and used it wide open (the filter needs a lot of light) and at it's minimum focus distance. Not too bad for an old zoom wide open!

This is the new bridge at the park. It is wider than the old one. The sidewalks leading to and from it were replaced with more curves to reduce the steepness. Both make it easier for people with wheelchairs to cross. Shot with a full spectrum camera using an IR chrome filter.

Next Fullspectrum Experiment.

I think this will be the last one for now. It's basically the same thing, I did before, but now eith a B+W #081 filter. This cyan-blue filter is also a technical filter and it blocks IR. But it seems to me not as much as the 470 filter I used before. On some photos you can see the pale green typical if shooting foilage with an unfiltered fullspectrum camera. Others show perfect greens. I cannot explain, probably different overlapping effects or a strange transmission curve.

Other than that I get nice colors, but as the filter is very „cold“ WB of course pretty extreme.

I now tried everything I wanted to -- now I should think what I do with this, actual pictures I mean, no experiments. If only I got an decent idea. Well, usually usages come up at some point, when you don't think too much, so I'm confident.
