Well, not really... the dough kept on breaking. This batch was made more like in the fashion of thread from a loom: stretched by hand to make a long thread.
Taste was excellent though, slippery, chewy, shiny noodles
I will never, ever, ever get tired of tofu.
It's like water (!)
Endless ways you can buy it, change it, flavor it, form it, cook with it, sweet, savory... it just gives and gives and we bake and fry and blend and gobble it up. Thanks tofu.

Philip had some friends over for "make your own pizza" night, thoroughly filled bellies ensued.
Philip's choices were goat cheese, sliced figs, and prosciutto. His was the winner by far!
Strobist:
Single light: SB-28 into reflective umbrella 45degrees camera right, pointing slightly down, just out of frame. Gelled with 3/4 CTO.
Fresh from the oven this afternoon. Soft and velvety in texture, with a light crumbly exterior, soft and cakey interior, and a dark, rich chocolate flavor with a dusting of powdered sugar. Just the right amount of sweet to counter the dark cocoa and coffee. Simply scrumptious.
Homemade from scratch by my fiancé, who is a culinary arts student and pastry chef in the making.
Yes, ladies, I am indeed a lucky woman. :)
I grew up in Colombia, South America. I really enjoy Colombian cuisine and Mr Chiots has grown to love it as well. One of our favorites is Empanadas. Empanadas are eaten in many Latin American countries, and each country has their specialty, as does each region within each country. I grew up in the prairie region of Colombia so I make mine the way they do there. I use areparina for the crust which is pre-cooked corn flour, I can’t find it locally so my dad brings it to me when he travels back from Colombia. In many other countries empanadas are made with a pie crust type dough, or a potato dough.

Yellow cakes, butter cream with chocolate cookie crumbs for dirt.
I was asked to do the cake last minute for my nephew's birthday party which was on Saturday. I basically came up with the idea on the spot in a matter of about 2 minutes. It came out waaay cuter than I ever imagined. I think this is to date one of my best yet. I'm definitely NOT bragging, but I'm pleased with it myself, and he and his mom along with all his friends loved it. Boys, the grosser it is the more they love it right?
The August Break
Recipe from Joy the Baker! She describes them perfectly... they are light and crisp and will crumble into million little pieces when you bite into them, BUT it is worth the mess. The almonds add such a nice crunch and texture, you shouldn't skip it! (Note: I thought I could hand slice 1/3 cup of almonds, but I was wrong, so wrong. Don't attempt at the risk of possibly slicing your fingers as you try to stabilize almonds on a cutting board...gah.)
Now that I've made those (using only two egg whites!), I feel a bit more confident about trying out a pavlova next time. I'll have to wait until we get some fresh fruits though...
Just having some fun trying my hand at liquid soap making. Started yesterday and finished it up today.

Making soap with organic carrot juice, wheat germ oil and a few other oils. The wheat germ oil is a beautiful amber color. I am hoping this soap holds it's orange hue as it heats up and goes into its gel stage. Should be interesting to cut it tomorrow!
First batch of homemade vegan pizza I have made in years and years. Delicious! Threw some Yves Pepperoni on top as well.

This is a series of five photos documenting the process of baking bread in a wood-fired oven.
I make only sourdough bread. One of the tricks is getting the bread ready to bake at exactly the same time as the oven is at the correct temperature. Here are 15 loaves ready to bake.

Smooth poppy seed filling with a lovely nutty taste, all wrapped up in a crumbly whole wheat crust, topped with streusel and meringue.

it was a little two-layer mini, white cake on the top and chocolate on the bottom, which matched the double-layer half sheet cake I made for everyone who wasn't Sadie.
@ my house. Homemade, amazing authentic english-style, beer-battered fish & chips. Although the chips were more like fries, they were still great. I also used some homegrown dill for the tartar sauce.
One Batter that magically seperates into three layers during the baking time: soft cake paired with a thick yet light custard and speckles of fresh, seasonal rhubarb. Get the recipe on the blog:

I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't let this yellow cake bake long enough (I'm still sort of unfamiliar with adjusting baking time to accommodate a bundt pan). But I did at least cover it in a delicious chocolate buttercream.
I like a cream cheese cheesecake better; maybe if the ricotta had lots of richer flavoring, but as is it was a little ho-hum for me.
By far my absolute favorite chocolate chip cookie! For the recipe & my rave review of it check out my blog - yup I'm finally back to nurturing my blog & giving it some much needed attention!
