Another run on the escalator - very happy with how it came out. I knew getting my pants dirty would be worth it!

Dianti means, if translated literally (which most books for learning Chinese don´t, a big mistake imo) "Electric Ladder". The symmetry is not perfect due to the "ad hoc" nature of this shot - it would be if I cropped on the right, which I don´t want to do right now.

That bag has been stuck there for the better part of a year. It's a good 20 feet off the ground, and just hangs there flapping in the breeze. Even through all the storms we've had, it's still there; it only gets more torn and sad-looking...

Another shot of the Grand Old Flag, from directly beneath. I wasn't sure which one I like the best... so I posted them both. :)

That's a wasp's nest, quite a distance above me, under the eaves. Maxed zoom and cropped, so the image quality isn't the best.

Water Tower in Junction City, Oregon, home of the Scandinavian Festival and the Almost Completely Naked Men of the Long Tom Grange. This is the closest I have ever been to a water tower. I was right underneath the framework. (IMG_1387_r1)

This was a tough one to take! Camera in right hand, out in front of my face, looking over my sunglasses (polarized, couldn't see LCD screen), and left hand shielding my eyes on the side from the sun that was blazing down from the left! Steady! Steady! No crop! Have a good weekend!

How many Hot Air Balloon photos have you seen from this angle? Or, could it be a UFO?

08-03-10 Who schedules lectures for 9am on Monday morning? Huh? Seriously! Like anyone is going to learn something at that time. Pfft. Anyway on the way back from said lecture I was struck by the blue of the sky this morning. It was bright sunny and clear and COLD! I decided I would like to try and capture today's blue so I planned a "looking up at a bit of a building shot" as I quite like them. The thing was what building? I wandered back from uni through the Sheffield Winter Gardens and into the Peace Garden and there I noticed the Novatel, well the back end of it to be precise I noticed how its geometric shape was echoed in the new St Paul's development and I thought I might have my shot. I fired off a few frames and wandered home. The shots were ok but the buildings were a bit underexposed so I was in need of Photomatix! So this is a HDR, a single shot HDR which is a technique I have used quite often in the 365. Once I was happy with the tone mapping I reimported it into lightroom and boosted the blue saturation slightly to really make the sky stand out.

Images viewed: Check out the links in the main body of text for some great shots of Sheffield centre.

Other Inspiration: Whilst compiling this post I realised that I am lucky to live in such a picturesque city. Many people who have not been to Sheffield (including me earlier on in life) assume that as a former industrial town it must be a very grim place. Its not! Its really really nice.
