Here's another shot of the wildlife that surrounded us during our stay at the Eaglereach Wilderness Lodge. This Kookaburra was all too happy to have his picture taken. When we originally spotted him (or her) he was off in the distance a bit. Well, I guess he saw my lens and knew that 100mm just wasn't going to cut it so he flight right onto the railing of our deck and smiled for this profile shot above.
Kookaburras have the most bizarre calls that I have ever heard which sounds like hysterical, laughter - leaning towards a maniacal, villain-esque cackling. Bizarre, right?
Well, to make a long story short - as friendly as this particular Kookaburra was, I think he was ultimately disappointed to not receive a hand out after our photo session. He expressed his particular displeasure by leaving a rather unsettling deposit all over the railing and deck :(
Thanks for taking the time to stop by my photostream - I appreciate your time and any and all comments. Sorry I haven't been keeping up on all your uploads, I've been trying but work/life has been crazy hectic still. Soon, hopefully things will calm back down... hopefully...

Wildlife biologists from BLM, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Nevada Department of Wildlife, Nevada Natural Heritage Program, Great Basin Institute and Department of Defense came together for a week of bat surveys near the Pahranaget National Wildlife Refuge. Bat Blitz, a yearly event organized by NDOW, focuses on gaining knowledge on bats throughout Nevada. This year the event was held in Southern Nevada. Fortunately, bats are drawn to water in the desert and friendly ranchers have provided ample water through stock tanks. Therefore, bats were caught and identified using mist nets, very thin mesh nets, stationed over stock tanks, ponds and springs. This intensive monitoring effort resulted in 936 bat captures of 14 different species.
