8.5"x11" board-mounted art canvas

12"x16" frame

This photo represents a few minor accomplishments.

1. I had my photo printed on board-mounted art canvas using SmugMug's www.jamesmilstidphotography.com/ services. The size is 8.5"x11". I'm absolutely pleased with the results! Highly recommended...

2. This is my first try at cutting my own mat. I purchased the Logan Intermediate mat cutter and am impressed with it's ease of use.

3. I took the photo in my DIY soft light tent. Made from white foam-board and white polyester cloth for diffusing the light, it works very well. The goal was to capture this photo with no reflections or bright spots in the glass. I'm happy with the results!

In case of the sun not rising, break glass.

I thought the lamps would provide a good frame for the boat for displaying that rule in my assignment, however nothing about this image really felt lworth handing up.

I was feeling lazy and couldn't remember how to edit the background in any kind of realistic way (and of course we covered that the week AFTER submission!) So this one went into the 'bit flat, bit boring, bit same same' pile.

It's up here though because the timing was spot on. I did use continuous shutter release, but my camera is not new, and she is not fast. The kayak (??) is perfectly centred between the lamps, which I was happy with. There's too much blah to make this a great photo, but if I were one of the men rowing, it'd be a great action shot put with my trophies or medals or something like that.

I would offer a copy to the rowers, if I knew who they were! Now it's not under pressure for an assignment I may go back and play with the cleaning and editing of the image, too.

They are in Adelaide Crows colours. Wrong sport, though!

This photo captures the element of framing because of the surrounding circle around the subject that makes the focal point stand out. To take this photo, I positioned my camera in between a circle-shaped statue and made sure that the subject was evenly lined up on both sides. To edit this photo, I intensified the greens in the grass and made the gate darker. I also added a curve to lighten the photo and increased the shadows. I think I did a good job at making the focal point stand out and if I could change anything, I would pick a more colorful subject.

For the look book for his fall and winter 2006-2007 collection, Bernhard Willhelm posed "ghetto boys" in giant frames. The frames evolve from a metal, "ghetto" gate into a gilded baroque frame, changing the "ghetto boys" into baroque paintings and vice versa, For this exhibition, the collection is presented in a classical museum gallery. The mannequins are arranged in such way that they can only be properly seen from a single vantage.

Went to visit my Dad today and spent a lovely few hours on his deck surrounded by greenery and renewed my spirit a bit. We talked about a lot of things and as usual, I enjoyed spending time with him.

Check out this frame! It is for a commission for a co-worker! He used scraps (he has tons!) and put a lip around it. The glass on the inside is even scraps he's had laying around. He wouldn't let me pay him for it either. He said he enjoyed making it and anytime I needed a frame of any size, he'd be happy to make one for me. How cool is he?!

As I was getting ready to leave, I mentioned something to him about seeing a house on my way to work each morning with stained glass things around and an old window with the frame still on it sitting against a tree with stained glass in it. He moved some boards around and said: "like these?". OMG!!! He has 6-10 old window frames sitting in his driveway not knowing what he was going to do with them. Once I could breathe again, I told him what great mosaics they could make. He asked me if I wanted one or two. Um ... chyeah! He also pulled out a piece of what I hope is tempered glass from an old fridge. My Dad saves things from the landfill and makes his daughter happy! Happy planet, happy daughter, good Karma for us all!!

7.25" x 6.5" White frame with double pane glass front and back (see through)

*All frames are hand crafted and the quality and characteristics are much better then the common, one-sided Riker Mounts. One of the great benefits of double pane glass framing is that you can see the front and back sides of the mounted butterflies. In most cases involving Neotropical butterflies the front and back sides of the wings are distinctly different. The back many times displays a species distinct form of self defense.*

The Morpho Theseus Juturna is one of the rarer Morpho butterfly species, known as an elegant White morpho. This species, which has several sub-species and is found in scattered regions of the Amazon. This particular sup-species is found on the connecting borders of Peru, Colombia and Brazil.

In Greek Mythology, hero king Theseus was the son of Poseidon, Aegeus and Aethra (yes, that's correct the son of a mortal king, mortal queen and Greek God, as in it was a crazy honeymoon). To some he was the king that founded Athens, to others he was the king that redefined it into a new era. He is known for such conquests as slaying the minotaur and ridding Greece of some sadistic thugs.

This phenomenal butterfly is also available in Black and Brown framing.

Every butterfly from Ben the Butterfly Guy comes from butterfly farms throughout the Eastern region of Peru. I personally visit each farm to assure their operations are respectable and revise documentation to make sure each butterfly farm is legally permitted to operate by Peruvian law. All butterflies here are classified non-endangered by the international CITES listings as reviewed by both the Ministry of Agriculture from Peru and U.S. Fish and Wildlife in the States. Copies of documentation and clearance are available upon request for your assurance and peace of mind.
