There is a community garden in Seattle. It used to be a farm: the Picardo farm. I am particularly fond of this place because the Picardos were early Italian immigrants. now the land is divided into tiny pieces and given annually to people in the city, to cultivate vegetables and flowers. I often wonder what they, the Picardos, would think of all the incongruous little structures, like this one, that disseminate their place.
The gardens are called P-patch, where the P stands for Picardo. This was the first of the community gardens established in Seattle. All the other ones, created more recently in other parts of the city, are also called P-patches.
C'è un orto pubblico a Seattle, dove una volta esisteva un'azienda agricola: la Picardo. Io sono particolarmente affezionata a questo luogo perché i Picardo erano vecchi immigranti italiani. La loro terra è ora divisa in tanti pezzetti che vengono ceduti annualmente a privati cittadini, per coltivare verdura e fiori. Spesso mi domando che cosa direbbero i Picardo se potessero vedere tutte queste piccole strutture incongrue disseminate nella loro tenuta. Gli orti sono chiamati P-patch, un nome che include la lettera P per ricordare i vecchi proprietari. Questo è stato il primo degli orti comunitari di Seattle. Anche tutti gli altri orti della città , creati successivamente, sono stati chiamati P-patch.
