Moving box cold frames that I made, tomatoes, peppers and nasturtiums.
I am new to South Carolina and this year will have my first real vegetable garden here at my new home. I bought my seeds before I was aware that you all are "local" and just started getting catalogs and newsletters. I already know that there are things I will do differently next year.... but this year..
I am fortunate to have 3 large southern exposure windows in our guest house and I turned it into a green house plant nursery. Besides the wonderful sun I am able to heat it independently, it was a very nice environment for the seeds. Almost everything I started germinated, it was amazing. I started January 20, 2010. I am also now using cold frames I made out of moving boxes to get things ready for the transition outside.
I used many recycled items to plant my seeds in, tomato containers, mushroom boxes, yogurt containers and my favorite , the rotisserie chicken box!
I started 4 kinds of tomatoes, 4 kinds of peppers, 2 cucumbers, squash, egg plant, gourds, kale, Bluebonnets, sunflowers, marigolds, zinnias, nasturtiums, cosmos , herbs and many hyacinth vines, that are going to Glencairn Garden.. I am sure there are some I have missed.
I plan to plant only enough for my family to eat in my own garden and I will be sharing the seedlings with friends and Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church's Community Hope Garden in Rock Hill. If I am one of your 3, the gift certificate will go to use in the Hope Garden. We will supply fresh vegetable to the clients that seek help with food and utilities at the Hope House across the street from the garden.
I completed my Master Gardener training with Clemson, York County Extension this fall and will have my hours very soon to get my official certificate. Working with the community has really excited me to spread the news on just how easy it is to start things from seeds, and how inexpensive it can be. I have loved every bit!
I have no pictures of the boys on our walls, 50c frames from the opshop + black paint = super snazzy new frames.
The boys woke up from their naps about half way through and were very insistent about helping out.
Framing the lapstrake Whitehall built under Master Boatbuilder Ray Speck's direction in the 2007 Traditional Small Craft class for an owner in Boston MA. This is the bending jig used to pre-bend the frames in that will be installed near the bow. Oak can take an incredible bend when prepared properly!

These are midwestern United States portrait frames for balck and white or sepia photos. The photos you see in these pictures are sepia reproductions of color photos of my daughter, taken in 2001 - 2003. They look fun and timeless in these vintage frames

Will be busy printing and framing in nice large, matted formats and frames and museum glass! Five of these photos will be printed on 40" x 60" floating wall mounted metal sheets! I think I know which--will share photos of the photos hanging on the walls!
And I am mounting some on plexiglass/acryllic--front mounting them! Some I am printing on lossy fuji-crystal archival paper too, and then front mounting 40"x60" versions to plexiglass--will send photos!
The secret to HDR photography is that you want people to say, "Woe dude--that's unreal!" And not, "Dude--that's not real!" "Unreal" is the word they use when they're trying to figure out the photo--what makes it cool--is it a photo? Is it painted? How'd it come to be--how'd you bend the light that way? "That's not real," is what they say if you have the saturation/HDR/ etc. turned up too high. :)
Some (almost) final edits for my Los Angeles Gallery Show! Printing them on metallic paper at 13" x 19" and mounting and framing them on a 4mm 18x24 white mat and 2" dark wood frame. Also printing some 40" x 70" whihc is over three feet by five feet! Wish you all could come (and hang out with the goddesses)!
