Public Interaction Objects (PIO) is a series of low-tech participatory objects. They are physical interfaces engineered to create meaningful interaction with individuals in various public contexts. Each object is a composite of various influences. PIO influences include historical and mythological narratives, cultural customs, market economies, and lifestyle, entertainment and commercial technologies.
These objects are designed to ultimately promote curiosity and participation for those that come in contact with them. PIOs also challenge our all too prevalent responses of suspicion and alarm that many foreign objects create. In recent years, our governments have decreed freedom-limiting legislation and in many public contexts - a heighten militarization. There are fear-laden messages channeled daily throughout the media as well. We have been indoctrinated to report these things rather than curiously explore them ourselves.
FS recognizes that we live in world that requires a basic sense of courage and trust in the people and objects that we share our spaces with in order to be free and active. It is also acknowledged that this trust has been horrifically exploited. We do not want to minimize the reality of these tragedies, nor do we condone these acts of aggression. Conversely, we do not want to surrender our freedom to explore, examine, create, share, confront, protest, and disseminate both ideas and objects in our shared public realm.

Spectators enjoy late summer sunshine at Highfield, home to Fulwood & Broughton Cricket Club. Note the mural. Captured during the closing stages of a Tommy Wilson Trophy T20 final clash with Northern Premier League rivals Netherfield.
The Kendal-based visitors pipped Fulwood & Broughton in a low-scoring thriller that went to the last ball. Needing one to tie and two to win, with one wicket remaining, the hosts completed a single but suffered a runout going for the second. Having lost fewer wickets, Netherfield were able to celebrate. Some felt ‘super overs’ should have been used to determine the winner.
A difficult wicket and a damp outfield ensured both teams had trouble putting runs on the board - despite Highfield being a relatively small ground. With bowlers in command, each team managed only one six. Fours were in short supply, too. Netherfield were 50-3 after 10 overs then 66-4 after 15.
At tea, few would have put money on a Netherfield win. However, Fulwood & Broughton lost two wickets, before scoring a run, in the first over. Game on! The hosts were 49-3 after 10 overs then 67-5 after 15. Twenty-five was needed from the last 18 balls then 13 off the final over. A valiant effort, late in the game, gave Fulwood & Broughton a sniff of the cup but they fell agonisingly short.
Match statistics

Netherfield won because they lost fewer wickets. Umpires: Adrian Darlington and Hillal Namajee.
How many humans life on the planet? And how many leaves does we have? In spring, summer or autumn, a forest's ground is always covered with leaves - leaves from the past few years, until finally they become soil again. Have you ever counted the number of leaves within a square meter on such a floor, or even in a quadrangle of 10cm x 10cm? And if so, how many would you have in a forest from one mountain?
Leaves are not only diverse with respect to their forms, but colors too: from yellow green, dark green to orange, red and brown. Assume further, that every leaf contains a couple of colors, and you end up with a vast variety of colors and forms.

Komodo dragon
Emerging from its burrow, a Komodo dragon starts out the day with a soak in the sun. Then it sets off on a hunt for food, perhaps a deer or wild pig. With its belly full, the lizard takes a break during the midday heat before the search for supper begins.
The Komodo dragon is the top predator on the Indonesian islands it inhabits.
•When it comes to a dragon’s menu, anything’s game as long as it’s made of meat, dead or alive.
•Tasting the air with its forked tongue, the dragon picks up the scent of prey and heads in that direction.
•Hiding along a trail, the dragon sits and waits. As prey wanders near, the dragon ambushes and seizes it with 60 sharp, serrated teeth. Venom from ducts between the dragon’s teeth seeps into the bite wounds.
•If the prey gets away, the dragon simply follows its scent trail until the venom finishes up the job.
•In addition to its important ecological role as a predator, the Komodo dragon also scavenges on any carcasses it comes upon.
•Despite the dragon’s dominance atop the food chain, it faces competition from people who hunt the same animals it needs to survive.

Lace Monitor, banded or 'Bell's form (Varanus varius), Nombinnie Nature Reserve, NSW, Australia.
On the last day of my Lake Cargelligo trip back in January, I managed the only reptile photograph of the trip. This guy spotted from the road while driving, the only other reptile seen on the trip being the numerous Eastern Blue-tongue Lizards also spotted while driving but were too fast for me by the time I could pull the car over.
