A storm rolling in at Settlers Park in Meridian Idaho

Looking across the River Esk towards Bikrby Fell with the Howbank Farm buildings sitting under the trees.

My Grandfather and my Mother's Brothers

My Grandfather and his photo albums. I like his haircut with his hairline shaved up above his ears. This was before my mother was born. I feel like a spy because I know how it all turned out. My Grandmother and Grandfather. All the children. The War. The Depression. We know so little, going in to the game, so little of the nature of our testing. Whether we'll stand the test or become overwhelmed by the forces pressing in on us. Maybe it doesn't really matter if we live up to some external standard. Maybe the real game is something else entirely.

“Dead Center” by James Merrill:

Upon reflection, as I dip my pen

Tonight, forth ripple messages in code.

In Now’s black waters burn the stars of Then.

Seen from the embankment, marble men

Sleep upside down, bat-wise, the sleep bestowed

Upon reflection. As I dip my pen

Thinking how others, deeper into Zen,

Blew on immediacy until it glowed,

In Now’s black waters burn the stars of Then.

Or else I’m back at Grandmother’s. I’m ten,

Dust hides my parents’ roadster from the road

Which dips—into reflection, with my pen.

Breath after breath, harsh O’s of oxygen—

Never deciphered, what do they forbode?

In Now’s black waters burn the stars. Ah then

Leap, Memory, supreme equestrienne,

Through hoops of fire, circuits you overload!

Beyond reflection, as I dip my pen

In Now’s black waters, burn the stars of Then.

"I feel sometimes as if I were a child who opens its eyes on the world once and sees amazing things it will never know any names for and then has to close its eyes again. I know this is all mere apparition compared to what awaits us, but it is only lovelier for that. There is a human beauty in it. And I can't believe that, when we have all been changed and put on incorruptibility, we will forget our fantastic condition of mortality, and impermanence, the great bright dream of procreating and perishing that meant the whole world to us. In eternity this will be Troy, I believe, and all that has passed here will be the epic of the universe, the ballad they sing in the streets. Because I don't imagine any reality putting this one in the shade entirely, and I think piety forbids me to try."

The control bunker for the missle launchers is buried in the side of a hill next to to the barn. Dark, forboding, and filled with asbestos-covered pipes and lead paint. Now, we can only wonder what is inside.

And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too

I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

The lunatic is in my head

The lunatic is in my head

You raise the blade, you make the change

You re-arrange me 'till I'm sane

You lock the door

And throw away the key

There's someone in my head but it's not me.

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear

You shout and no one seems to hear

Gotta love the 10-22mm wide angle. A nice perspective shot of the Vatican and forboding clouds.

We had climbed a long way up around the ridge, here is the view back down the main Manaslu Circuit, to the right. The weather was forboding with thick cloud but thank goodness it had yet to rain.

That's my testimony - magma of my soul.

Took a stroll under forboding skies at Gas City Campground, saw lots of wildlife out today. Almost stepped right on this snake, it was none too happy about that either....

An apocalypse shoot a friend of mine organised on the coast. It was bloody hot that day, but we got some good shots.

Everyday is a battle inside me, only to watch helplessly as I slip closer and closer into the forboding darkness.

One of the most haunted sites in Singapore. This is one of the main entrances -- a forboding facade.

...and what a glorious day it was!

Amanda, Jordan and I all packed into Ruby the Subaru (in Jordan's words: "A German guided Japanese chariot") and set forth to explore both coasts of this lovely island.

And happend the last time around, forboding clouds and nasty weather forcasts gave way upon our arrival, and we had a truely glorious experience on the real west coast. Here is the first batch of snippets from that great day one week ago... more to come after work tonight. :)

I kept thinking of Bladerunner and Mad max when I was running around this factory. I especially loved www.mailerindia.com/god/hindu/index.php?siva2

Two friends darkened by the rays of the sun. This day, however, the rainclouds were heavy and forboding.

The lunatic is on the grass

Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs

Got to keep the loonies on the path

The lunatic is in the hall

The lunatics are in my hall

The paper holds their folded faces to the floor

And every day the paper boy brings more

Some forboding signs on the dirt beside a road in Argentina

It was a gloomy day when i took carpet for a walk at Stourhead with the camera. Its a shame really, but i tried out some good shots. lots more experimentation needed before i have nailed it properly though

Erected on the ex railway goods yard in the 1970's. I think it was a tax office - hence its forboding, intimidating appearance and it probably wasn't much fun for the individuals who had to work there either !!! A truly horrible place.

Holme moss Mast sits above the village of Holme and just beside the forbidding Black Hill - a pro level walk and a nightmare in the dark.

Another chance to stand in the middle of the road and risk a traffic accident.

The formation to the right of the road (I think) is Sleeping Bear Butte, the combination of dust and light made it quite surreal, at times it looked like a painted backdrop to one of the old sixties episodes of Star Trek, though here it just looks forboding.

We were approaching a dust storm here, which we felt the full force of as we got to our hotel. Not sure how bad it was by local standards, but I was still washing sand out of my cracks days later...

Bodiam Castle is a pleasent place to visit during the day but don't stay there after the sun goes down. As the shadows grow long and hearts grow cold - help I'm turning into Vincent Price / Alice Cooper / Boris Karloff. ( Delete as appropriate )
