Some of Sebastian Saltrava's architectural designs in the City of Arts and Sciences can take on an almost ethereal forboding feel. This section of the science buildings with its vast empty staircase resembled an entrance to a spaceship that could have come straight out of Star Trek. I used a black and white conversion to reflect a sense of foreboding, enhancing the stormy sky and letting the blacks dominate.

Awaiting paths south to Zhezqazgan with their trains of copper ore. The station Nikolskiy, Satbaev, EL21-050 and EL21-025. February the 26th 2026.
After watching the commotion from the cab of the 025 directed my way, I have made my way down to where the loaded trains as they await their paths to Kengir, the next station, midway to Jezqazgan. One of the groundstaff greets me, handshakes, where are you from, what brings tyou here? The 050 is uncloupled from its partner. Then the driver of the 025 climbs down and runs over, beaming. I know him, he was welcomed us into his locomotive last May, it is Kairat. The ground worker is astonished that he knows me. Kairat tells me he knew I was there, after the driver of the 257 told him about me the day before, in the stalled train up from Kombinatskaya.The time soon goes, we don't have too long to re-familiarise, his train recieves the order to continue. Well, the forboding has now become a whole lot more friendly, amidst the rubble, the masts and the smoking chimneys amd the dogs, the friendliness of people prevail, I no longer feel such an outsider.

I liked the way the light played off the clouds and this dead scrub oak in Tehama County, Northern California. As the scene was already quite dramatic and somewhat ominous looking, I chose to process the image for a sort of "cinematic" look.

I like the way this one is split in two pieces: a light side and a dark side. On the right, we have a bright, sunny side that we will call "Luke", and on the other is a dark and forboding cliff we will call "Vader". The river is the Force that flows between them.

The fisherman huts at Winterton on Sea catching the last light of the day in October. An intentional dark and moody edit to accentuate the almost aggresive and forboding feeling these huts display.
Another place that's been on the "to do" list for a while is this abandoned ornate waterworks. It's remote, dark and very very muddy to get in but once inside it's dry unlike the weather outside. Camera rotation faffery with a fisheye lens shot in one photographic exposure.
Stunning example of late Victorian era carpenter Gothic architecture, or as I like to phrase it, the most freaking awesome house in town. I've always loved houses with turrets and towers.
Mount Olivet Cemetery - Nashville, TN (best viewed large)
Just before dusk as I entered Mount Olivet cemetery I noticed three people at this wonderful Gothic monument. It was a photographer on a photoshoot. It was a flickr member who is in the Nashville Strobist group so, of course, they had all the external lighting gear at the scene. A woman in Gothic dress was sitting in the monument. Upon an inquiry on my part I found that she was a soon to be bride and this was part of her wedding pictures. We passed several times during the next hour as they moved from location to location. I would love to see the photos they took!
This is Castle Campbell in Dollar Glen, Clackmannanshire. The glen itself is a beautiful place, full of waterfalls and lovely views. The castle itself is now a carefully managed shell (run by Historic Scotland) and very interesting to go around.
Getting here was a bit of a trial since it had snowed and was extremely icy too. The path you see here was just gritted, which helped a bit.
Bonehill Rocks is situated not far from Widecombe in Dartmoor.
This shot is looking east, and in the distance you can see Saddle Tor and the Haytor Rocks .
Bonehill Rocks are well worth a visit, just to explore or take in the lovely views - especially in good clear weather; though on this day there were a couple of heavy showers. Conditions which I think make for more interesting photographs: as here, where I think the black clouds contributed to a sense of drama and forboding.
I processed this image in Lightroom and Silver Efex Pro adding some quite heavy grain for a more dramatic look.

Wheal Coates Tin Mine, St Agnes, Cornwall is perched on the cliffs above the raging Atlantic Ocean. The shadows stretching in front of the ruins add a sense of mystery and forboding.

I love cloud formations..Sometimes they are even what I would call a scary beauty.
We had a lot of severe weather in our state a few days ago.. It was very windy here in the Twin Cities, but we were lucky as the sky looked threatning but it cleared up . Unfortunatley a couple towns did get hit with tornadoes..
I just heard today that Brazil is having some tremendous floods..Let's say a prayer for those people...
