Looking out into one of the many secure yards at Alcatraz. As old and decaying as it is, the place maintains a real sense of forboding. The night tour just adds to it.
This plant is a type of cycad. Cycads go back some 250 million years, definitely prehistoric. I think that is interesting, and here they are today, still thriving! This shot is looking in toward the center. They are quite huge and a bit forboding with those sharp points on the leaves. Hugs and thanks for viewing! =o)

Another rather forboding view of the garden. I liked the backlighting here with the pinwheel effect.
Seemingly the gates to hell, in the caverns below Forbidden Corner in the Yorkshire Dales - an amazingly fun day out :-)

Another piece for a non-dA photo assignment. I've done a bit of post processing using Adobe Lightroom to get the mood the way I wanted it.
This is actually a hallway in the complex where I live at Daegu University, South Korea. It really isn't that dark and spooky in real life! ;)

An apocalypse shoot a friend of mine organised on the coast. It was bloody hot that day, but we got some good shots.
So i was out in back yard today because it was so sunny and I had half an hour to kill. I wanted to try some things out with it being quite sunny. This was one of the shots.
I call it: ‘A Hollow Full Of Flowers (New Life Amongst The Darkness)’
Corney I know but I love the image its pretty yet foreboding.
I was on a little pilgrimage to my former self yesterday...... or at least on a trip to some of the places I had been to as a kid. I was in Birmingham my home town. I was working but I had a little bit of time in the center of town to hang, had a coffee with a friend in the art world, then I was passing the Catholic Cathedral St Chads. I had been in there a few times in the past..... as somthing to do with the Scouts I think. I went in to have a look round. It is as you would expect an interesting slightly forboding kind of dark building. The one man who had been praying had left while I was there. The place was empty and I was interested in the figure of Christ on the cross against the amazing ceiling as you see..... so I went out to the car picked up a camera with a longer lens and came back in. I made a few frames of the picture you see above then a man came hurrying in ...... to throw me out of the Cathedral ........ I had comitted the crime of photography he had seen me on CCTV ....... There was no room at the inn for anyone with a camera.
Cheers Jez XXXXXXXXXXXXX
PS......... Here is a track [Harv](harvindersunila.tumblr.com/) recomended to me in the past........... [www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdO85Qf4Poc&feature=relmfu](www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdO85Qf4Poc&feature=relmfu) the name of the band....... The Naked and Famous ....... kinda seems right for today :-)))))
what one sees in the transient moments of the twiight as the sun vanishes and the vampyres come out to play....the cathedral from across the bridge. The images is grainy, underexposed, dark, forboding, and weird. The people were acting strangely, and some were walking back and forth for no reason at all. It was a surreal experience like something out of the Twilight Zone.
The sky creates a sense of forboding and the Routemaster on the 159 will soon be no more. RML2752 pauses opposite Brixton Garage at Streatham Hill under threatening skies.

On an evening wander from a hotel I was staying in for work at Warrington, I wandered along the river near the Thelwall Viaduct. I came to a set of sluice gates across the river where several different streams joined. It sounded like a jet plane in the distance, all the water swirling around. I perched the camera on the handrail and took some long exposures. I like the forboding light in this one. The bright spot on the right is a plane - it made some streaks in other pictures, but the overall feel wasn't quite right.
Forboding spot for this tiny Savannah Sparrow at low tide on the Nisqually mudflats in western Washington State.
A large storm on 5th August 2013 sweeping from West to East in France… These were taken as the skies darkened and before the huge storm 'hit'. Many more pictures of the forboding sky with amazinf illuminated clouds - but the power of these had to be shared!
On Sunday, I went down to Lakeview Cemetery with some friends from CPS, and explored a lot of the areas around the Garfield Memorial.
This is a sculpture at John Hay's resting place. It is the archangel Michael, with the words, "The fruit of righteousness is sown in place of them that make peace" carved on the stone. I loved the sculpture, and wanted to capture something darker and more forboding for such a sculpture. I really liked the quote, and wanted to make sure I did this sculpture justice.
John Hay was an American statesman, an assistant to Abraham Lincoln, and later was named Secretary of State, where he served for President McKinley and Roosevelt before his death in 1905.
Taken with my OM Zuiko 50mm lens at f/4.
The compulsory shot of Alcatraz from Pier 39. The fog added to the forboding. The smell of seals took that away though.

epigram from p 135, that —

Herculaneum was destroyed along with Pompeii when Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD79, burying the towns in ash, pumice and pryoclastic flows. It was the latter that buried the town of Herculaneum.
The photo shows both the ancient excavated ruins - which are in incredible condition for being over 2000years old, and the modern town built above it.
In the background stands for the for forboding spectre of Mount Vesuvius that so violently destroyed the town.
Lucy Sinnerella Littleton was born of a very short stature some claim that is was because of her dad participating in a science experiment as a student...
...the nutty scientist injected him with DNA from a Ornithorhynchidae mammal mixed with marsupial all sponsored by a company who sold small plastic toys in chocolate eggs...
...and that was basically how she was born at first in an egg and when it hatched a Very tiny version of Lucy came out, she was redish-pink and her hind legs was not yet fully developed...
...she crawled up her mothers skirt and hid in her chest pocket close to where dinner was served...
she did develop legs later but he stature was very short, the other human children in her school bullied her...
...this young girl aged by years and soon she was a teen, but unlike the other teens in her school she didn´t develop but one day when she turned 21 the legal age on the capital sector 23-b-q-rrr.45 a movie agent discovered her, she was the perfect child actor...
since there was laws that forbode children of acting to many hours since that would be illegal child-work a ancient law only applying to the movie business in the capital since in other professions they even used gene-manipulated foetuses for different purposes!!
...Anyhow Lucy got her first role, playing a medieval girls who tipped her brother not to climb a beanstalk a movie rip-off from some old Grimm fairytale!!!
...ok, they pay wasn´t great, but it gave her enough credits to buy a second hand speeder in the Fish-Emperors Antiques shop...-
... proud and fast she hovered her magnecraft down the street, flirting with boys at traffic lights, screaming: I am a moviestar look at me now...
then she drove right in to a wall...
...at first everything was black, then she heard voices around her...
- Oh She must have broken her neck, did you see how the tiny girl broke those bricks with her head...
- Poor child, she must have stolen her mothers ride, that is why they fit all vehicles with alcoholic locks to prevent this madness!!
...at first she felt that she was slowly returning back to consciousness, but then she started fading again and the common mob observing her accident started fading away and a huge white robot started to appear it said:
- Hello Lucy, I am sad to tell you that your time here in the universe is up, don´t blame me it is beyond my powers to decide these things...
...Lucy stopped listening to the socially awkward Angelic Robots clumsy speech...
instead she screamed: It is not fair, I just got started, I was so close to my milk and honey heaven... it is not fair!!!
...can´t you take that tentacle face over there he seem like he has nothing to live for...
the Angel Replied: ok, Lucy,I will just run through my data-base and see if I find any regulations that could fit in you case, some sort of "red tape" that could bend somehow!!!
when the drone was flickering the written pages on his inner vision, Lucy started to grip her head with one hand acting like a spine of a crane for her broken neck, then started staggering around the corner and then when she got the hang of it she started to march then running...
the Angel-bot who discovered that his "costumer" had skipped and gotten away started talking to the guy with the tentacle-face and said...
- Sir Would you make me a favor? would it be ok if I broke your neck and took you with me? you know my boss would be very angry when I come back without the mortal remains of this "costumer".... would you sir? it would help me so much... eh, it is only for eternity...
...and here we leave the Angel-Bot and teh tentacle-faced fellow...
Lucy got away from death, she managed to hide away and got big time movies roles as a famous zombie-child actor!!!
Once the Imbolc celebrations finish at the standedge visitors centre, back in Marsden village centre, the Mr Fox collective put on a dance (similar to morris dancing, but a lot darker and with fire)
Really enjoyed this, I missed it last year.
(last photo for now, got a load more of Mr Fox and the imbolc fireworks to finish processing and uploading over next day or two)
The Imbolc Fire Festival takes place every year in February in the Pennine village of Marsden, nestled in the moors at the very top of the Peak District national park.
Imbolc itself is based on a 2000 year old pagan tradition of celebrating the change from winter to spring, in which along with an impressive fire-spinning display, theres also fireworks and a battle between the characters "Jack Frost" (boooo jack frost!) and "The Green Man of Spring" (yaaaaay green man!)
This photo reminds me of the really creepy morgue images by Andres Serrano, with the dark and minimal close-ups of people's remains, which were both kind of beautiful and disturbing simultaneously.
The lunatic is on the grass
the lunatic is on the grass
remembering games
and daisy chains and laughs
got to keep the loonies on the path
The lunatic is in the hall
the lunatics are in the hall
the paper holds their folded faces to the flor
and every day the paper boy brings more
And if the dam breaks open
many years too soon
and if there is no room upon the hill
and if your head explodes
with dark forbodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon
The lunatic is in my head
the lunatic is in my head
you raise the blade,
you make the change,
you rearrange me 'till I'm sane
you lock the door
and trown away the key
there's someone in my head
but it's not me
And if the cloud bursts
thunder in your ear
you shout and no one seems to hear
and if the band you're in
starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

They hold within a hidden JOY. Secretely they ride mysterious floating vehicles, made from decayed men, capable of transcending through various realms between the physical and alternate realities. Skulls appear to smile because they are. They know the truth that lies therein, once the flesh rots away. You must join them. Help them. Become them. They invite you to stay, lest you stink alone. You have entered the realm of YS. Like an amusement park ride where the operator kicks the controls into high gear until bodies are hurled off in tandem with the vomit. Then the rush of euphoria is slowed down just long enough for you to catch a breath. But that breath is borrowed. They have come to collect. MAKE IT STOP!! And now the fun begins. These skulls with their connected skeletal remains laugh and dance before the flames, but if you look hard enough you can see the strings. One of 'em stirs a big black cauldron. Sometimes a head or another body part will float up from the bubbles and smoke. He stirs with a human leg, and it ain't his own. PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MEN BEHIND THE CURTAINS. They are the brains inside these laughing skulls. They control not only the skeletons but also the demented carousel operator. They are working a spell on your mind as well. They play tricks on you. They relax you with melody or even make you laugh with their hokeyness. Be not amused for too long with their craftiness, for the true objective is to be revealed. Those remarkable keyboard arpeggios and precise rhythm passages you hear are really something else. Something sinister and forboding is in your cd player. It will give you chills and make your skin crawl. And no, its not the weather. QUICK! Run! Hurry while the music slows down!!! Ah, but they pursue, inch by obsconded inch. Like some twisted cacaphonic nightmare when you try to run but you end up being pulled backward, you fight with all your being, but to no avail you descend back into the fresh grave they have so lovingly prepared for you. Look back and their hands, though strong and omnipotent, are invisible and omnipresent. (This happens at 4:42 , track 5, and if you listen hard enough, you can hear the witches shreik and wooo--oooh-aaahhh in delight. Alas the music stops, and the witches sing unaccompanied. Thus ends YS. The rest of the CD is a bonus track single or something tht has nothing to do with the original album. The lunatic who smiles as if possessed by demons, euphoric in his torture, he knows. He's been there. He laughs at YOU because you're next. He loves the black night, the skeletons, the flying bats, the cold chill, the chorusing withces, and that incredible drummer. He digs that creepy organ. Those organs. All those spare parts scattered about. He dances like a madman to balletto di bronzo because, well because he is a madman, and balletto is his favorite group, his only group. The anthem of his madness, YS, has been playing over and over in his head since 1972. For More 5 Star Reviews Ys by Balletto Dibronzo
These magical flowers grow only in the dimension of Tali, where only skilled wizards and warriors are able to make their way through the dark, dense, and forboding forests in order to reach the sparse clearings which are the only places that these flowers grow.
Each of the five colours, all of which may be found growing on a single bush, posess a unique magical property.
When the beige flower is eaten, the person who ingests it will be immune to cuts, bruises, burns, and other such injuries for two to three hours. If one of these injuries is sustained, the eater will find it to heal immediately. If a bone is broken, the magic will not repair it, but it will prevent blood loss and help to limit the pain.
The pink flower, when ingested, allows the user the ability to change his appearance at will, although it will not allow him to become anything other than the species he already is. It will last two to three hours, at the end of which the eater will change back into his original form.
Eating the red flower will allow the user to breathe fire for half an hour.
Drying, powdering, and adding the magenta flower to hot water will create a potion that, when drunk, will allow the user to more keenly sense others' emotions for one hour per cup drunken, thus making it easier to distinguish lies from the truth.
Eating the purple flower will make almost all species violently sick for a few hours.
Also visible on my desk are a number of glue stains, and the place where I carved my pen name in with a needle.
Located in Mittagong, the Tooth and Co brewery has been abandonded since 1981, closed due to fire damage and rising costs. Inside the forboding exterior facade, the two remaining buildings have a number of floors, several of which are difficult to reach. Colourful graffiti covers many surfaces, and some stairs and entire floors are missing. Despite this, it was a delight to explore and photograph.
April 24, 2008, somewhere near Hoxie, Kansas. We'd been hovering in Atwood, Kansas for a couple hours, waiting to see which nearby storm would take over and dominate the area. It ended up being a storm just to our southeast. We jetteed east, then south to catch up with it right about here; I shot this out the passenger window as we raced south to Hoxie. In the distance, you can see a pretty low wall cloud.
I don't think this storm ever really produced a tornado, though it threatened to do so several times. If you watch "Storm Chasers" on the Discovery channel, this is the storm the DOW team attempted to intercept in episode one of season two.
The spectacular Brimstone Hill Fortress is not only a National Park but also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, because of its historical significance. Perched high on a hillside overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the forboding mass of Brimstone Hill Fort has been called "The Gibralter of the Caribbean." Construction of the fort began under British rule in 1690, and took a century to complete, mostly with African slave labor. The huge fort, with its five bastions and citadel, covers 38 acres, and is one of the largest engeering projects even undertaken in the Caribbean. The fort eventually became obsolete and was abandoned in 1852. However, extensive restoration work began in the 1960s, and it was reopened as a national park in 1982.
