The greyish green of leaf-less limbs, the yellowed green of dead shoots and grass and the dark forboding grey of a winter sky.

The car's also dark grey with a few terrain-related brownish green highlights.

I convinced my companions to at least follow the horses to the other side of the scrub, to see what we could see. As we were about to disappear up the sandy path over what had once been dunes, the sun came out, so I paused to take a picture. It made such a difference to the colours, and brought such apparent warmth to what had previously looked quite forboding.

The feeling of being in a novel didn't dissipate as we scrambled up through the loose sand between high walls of scrub. Suddenly the path ended in a clearing, evidently man made. A rough group of stubby trees surrounded the clearing, and in the centre there was one very old and gnarled tree with initials carved on it. The place was so overgrown that the branches met overhead. This place had everything! Two ruined mansions, a secret harbour, and now a mysterious and romantic clearing!

We emerged from the bushes onto a dirt road that ran along and round the side of a field, then up alongside the cliff, atop which was the ruined house. We walked along the road to the bottom of the cliff. There we found an old stone wall with a rusted iron gate hanging open, and a path leading up into the trees.

This naturally covered cave beach is hidden away at the end of one of the dark forboding caves.

The undulations in the sand where about 2 feet deep and very soft. The tripod kept sinking right in making a sharp image very difficult. It really reminded me of an alien enviroment. I was thinking that the next footstep might uncover something buried in the sand...

It gave me a sense of forboding which is what I wanted to recreate in my final image.

On my first visit to Cornwall, the county lived up to its forboding and mystic reputation. Everywhere we visited was shrouded in the fogs time and rain ...

I dragged Ryan through this Malibu Creek State Park for a location scout. It was drizzling and layers of mud stuck to the bottoms of our shoes. It was nasty! This lone bird watched us, chuckling to himself I'm sure. Because he can fly.

An incredible storm hit Martha's Vineyard mid-afternoon on Saturday. We were on a distant beach on Chappaquiddick, in the "chimneys" area on Cape Poge and watched the storm move down the length of Cape Cod then button-hook around and head straight for us! A very forboding wall of black clouds raced toward us, lightening crackling, thunder booming with a super-sized helping of torrential rain! Incidently, these photos were taken where the last seen in Jaws was filmed. The beach that Hooper and Chief Brody paddled towards during the closing credits of the movie.

This photo is from my second day of the 2009 "This Sure Beats Working" tour, taken in late August 2009. This was a very unfortunate day on several counts. The forecast was for cloudy skies in the morning, burning off by early afternoon. My intent was to hike to the Chain Lake Loops. Somehow I started off correctly but missed the turnoff for the Chain Lakes and ended up going to Ptarmigan Ridge - a longer hike with more elevation gain. After two hours I was getting concerned since I didn't see any lakes and the weather was getting much worse. I ran into a couple coming from the opposite direction and they told me I was only a few minutes from Ptarmigan Ridge, so I went on. About that time the wind picked up and the fog thickened, so it was almost whiteout conditions. I never did see Mt. Baker, even though it was very close. I talked to other hikers and they told me the view from here on a clear day was incredible - so I will have to come back to this trail. On the return I went to a little lake - not sure of the name, and then ended up at Picture Lake. All in all an interesting day, but not with the outcome I wanted.

I was on a little pilgrimage to my former self yesterday...... or at least on a trip to some of the places I had been to as a kid. I was in Birmingham my home town. I was working but I had a little bit of time in the center of town to hang, had a coffee with a friend in the art world, then I was passing the Catholic Cathedral St Chads. I had been in there a few times in the past..... as somthing to do with the Scouts I think. I went in to have a look round. It is as you would expect an interesting slightly forboding kind of dark building. The one man who had been praying had left while I was there. The place was empty and I was interested in the figure of Christ on the cross against the amazing ceiling as you see..... so I went out to the car picked up a camera with a longer lens and came back in. I made a few frames of the picture you see above then a man came hurrying in ...... to throw me out of the Cathedral ........ I had comitted the crime of photography he had seen me on CCTV ....... There was no room at the inn for anyone with a camera.

This was tonight's sun, taken through leaves and a wide open lens for effect. It is smoky, and has been at my place for 16 days, due to the still burning, still uncontrolled Indians fire that started on 6/8. This latest, more dangerous to me and my friends, fire is the Gallery Fire. It has closed the road since Saturday, and as of 10 pm tonight is burning on both sides of the road.

Again, please bear with me. I cannot comment right now, due to other priorities. I am posting a few fire shots so that my friends and family can keep up, and I can notify a whole lot of people in a short period of time. We have lost 16 homes, and do not have the resources to fight it that we need as there are about 800 fires burning in Central and Northern California due to freak lightning strikes on Saturday, 6/21. It is way too early in the season for this, and forbodes of a dangerous and difficult summer.

Another fire photo.

The Silver Memorial Bridge between Gallipolis, Ohio and Henderson, West Virgina over the Ohio River has, of course, been rebuilt since the events described in the novel and movie "The Mothman Prophecies."

The original bridge did connect Gallipolis and Point Pleasant which led to the events.

While the bridge that people in Point Pleasant would be taking into Ohio now was nowhere near my hotel, the new Silver Bridge was abutted the parking lot.

This is where you could almost touch the Silver Bridge from the Super 8 Gallipolis.

About the only thing touching the Silver Bridge when I made my way into Point Pleasant on the final morning of my road trip, however, was the fog.

Though I liked how the morning fog made the bridge a bit forboding.

As she neared the towering wrought-iron arch, a sudden, heavy wave of foreboding washed over her, chilling the air despite the humidity of the dusk. The sissy crossdresser faltered, her sharp heels slowing until she came to a complete stop directly beneath the rusted peaks of the gateway.

A large storm on 5th August 2013 sweeping from West to East in France… These were taken as the skies darkened and before the huge storm 'hit'. Many more pictures of the forboding sky with amazing illuminated clouds - but the power of these had to be shared! Astounding and foreboding... hope this shares a little of the moment I experienced!

The Wasserturm (water tower) is a grim heavy brick building up into Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin.

I know very little about the building, which I find forboding and fascinating. Google gives up only the information that the Wasserturm was completed in 1875 by the English Waterworks Company, on a design by Henry Gill. I am told that the basement of the Wasserturm proper, which is now a fancy set of apartments, was used for torture by the Nazis, but I don't have a clear source on this.

On the Road again.

A couple of weeks ago we decided to meet the kids in Ames for a Sunday lunch. I decided to take the camera along. This is the first time I've had it out in a year. It felt good to have it in my hand again. I'm defintitly going get some more photographic road trips in this year. Enjoy the landscapes as we travel.

as expected, this looks more properly composed at 1.85:1.

i've set this to my wallpaper at work so i can analyze it throughout the day. the composition is very weird... it's like i couldn't decide which was the real subject here, the barn or the stormy sunset, so i emphasized both parts equally. additionally, the power lines have been showing up in so many of my recent landscape shots that they're starting to become a motif.

a bit more about this particular barn: i see it every night as i drive home. in early spring and late fall, it's at such an angle that the magic hour light hits the western side (the short side that you can't see here) square on. it looks great, but as it's near a highway and in the middle of a corn/bean field, there's nowhere to pull off to get to that vantage point. i've always wanted to take some kind of picture of it, so this is close enough.

i looked at this photo on my desktop for hours before noticing that the side of the barn looks like a skull. now that i've seen it, i can't un-see it. i'd like to think it does two things: 1) subliminally reinforce the forboding atmosphere, and 2) because of the eye's tendency to gravitate toward faces, act as a subtle balance for the power line tower on the horizon.

I couldn't help but notice the way the trees looked upon the advanceing storm...A forboding expectation of impact.

From this point forward, I exist alone

I knew a week ago that the weather here in Kansas was not going to be conducive to my Ghost Houses project (no clouds). I had been thinking for a while about a plan B. I've never been much interested in the Interiors of these abandoned buildings but they aren't effected as much by the lack of cloudy skies. This is the first tester of that idea which is essentially to place a single, masked character inside

They're not meant to represent a real person, but to give a sense of scale and mood (forboding?) to the shots. The use of a mask also means that I can use different models in different locations but maintain a consistent feel through the project

The lunatic is on the grass

The lunatic is on the grass

Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs

Got to keep the loonies on the path

The lunatic is in the hall

The lunatics are in my hall

The paper holds their folded faces to the floor

And every day the paper boy brings more

And if the dam breaks open many years too soon

And if there is no room upon the hill

And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too

I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

The lunatic is in my head

The lunatic is in my head

You raise the blade, you make the change

You re-arrange me till I'm sane

You lock the door

And throw away the key

There's someone in my head but it's not me.

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear

You shout and no one seems to hear

And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes

I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
