Exploring some of the historic locations, I found these in the Old Wilpena Station buildings. I love dusty old stuff!!!
17% moonrise, just risen! 4 shot vertical panorama with a 60 second blend for the ground. I hadn't scouted any sites, so this is very close to Hawker, while the RASA telescope was running.
Mount Arden is on Argadells, a grazing property that offers tourist accomodation.
I was taken up to the summit of Mount Arden for sunset by the owners of the property.

Except for immediately following rainfall, which is generally infrequent, creek beds in the Flinders Ranges do not, for the most part, have visible running water. Nevertheless there is oftentimes water filtering through the sand beneath the ground which can be forced to the surface in places by local bedrock, as seen here. Upstream and downstream of this section of flowing water the creek bed is seemingly dry.
Driving along the absolutely abandoned highways I felt as though I had to re-adjust my eye-sight to focus further into the distance - everything just spans to the horizon.
For this photo I wanted to take a different approach. What I was looking at was a 'landscape arena' and I wanted to take a photo that would somehow, someway come close to capturing the essence of this arena.
Press "L" to view this large on black and, as always, thanks for looking!
(This is one photo I think really needs to be seen large..)
thinking about going back to South Australia - Its a big trip more than twice across Europe and then another days drive in a car
Reluctant to allow us to get too close, these little Neophemas made up in numbers what they lacked in proximity.
Australia's largest eagle, with a distinctive diamond-shaped tail. Ranging across the whole continent, they perch atop dead trees, telegraph poles and sometimes on the ground in open country.

(my 123rd photo to make ‘explore’)
I went for a drive up the road for a few days into the outback of South Australia.
As we head into our final weeks of winter here this land is still very dry & could use a few showers of rain. HFF
A quick trip to one of my favorite places to charge the batteries.

This substantial woolshed is a reminder that in 1864 some 40,000 sheep were shorn on Kanyaka Station.

ikara - flinders ranges national park, south australia: the traditional lands of the adnyamathanha people (‘ad-nyer-mut-na’)
Australia is blessed with a huge range of honeyeaters and I confidently predict that I will not photograph all of them in my time. That's why, when I discover one I haven't posted, you eventually get to see them, even though the quality is a bit dodgy. Photographed in South Australia's Flinders Ranges, last year.
Coming from the Adnyamathanha word ‘patatjildna’, meaning peppermint gums, Parachilna township was originally surveyed in February 1863, around 10km from its current position.
When the Great Northern Railway was built in 1881, Parachilna was moved to its current location, becoming a maintenance station for the railway and an important siding supplying Blinman and surround areas. It’s also on a railway line that used to connect with the old Ghan line that crosses Australia from Darwin (north) to Adelaide (south).
After enjoying a beer at the nearby Prairie Hotel, I came across this sculpture located on the platform of the old railway station. To my surprise a helicopter musterer flew into the scene and I managed to capture this silhouette of it.
