Cruising past Stockholm Skavsta Airport outside of Nyköping

The city of Nyköping and looking out over the Baltic Sea

Still following the E4 highway, which has become even more delightfully squiggly and I'm wishing I'm in a car down there as much as I'm enjoying being in the air up here

Starting to reach the edge of the Stockholm metropolitan area

Central Stockholm with the The Royal Palace on the island along with many many other notable landmarks

Coming around past the port and the Kaknästornet, TV tower with an observation deck and restaurant

Downwind leg for visual approach into Stockholm Arlanda Airport

Okay, hopefully can taxi the rest of the way without problems

People can rent this as a hostel!

Not a rain cloud in sight as I prep for departure from Nagoya Int'l

Then lost my coordination and wobbled a good deal on rollout - no bounce tho!

Taxiing out - even looking to the north there's no indication of better weather

Was fiddling with the GPS to help me find my way back to the airport but had to get my head back up when I heard of a departing aircraft heading my way

Making my approach over the Nya Älvsborg Fortress towards Gothenburg

Following the coast as it juts out into the Sea of Japan to form the Noto Peninsula

Following the Takase River towards Matsumoto

The Vigeland Park sculpture museum and garden

Looking back over Oslo past the Ullevaal Stadion

Setting a direct course for my destination airfield

Leveling off at cruise altitude just above the clouds

Approaching Mount Kitanglad Range Natural Park from the north

Showa is just part of the larger metro area here made up of several cities and towns clustered together

Banking to a new course over Lake Suwa

Skimming over the Utsukushigahara Highland, the highest plateau in Japan

The Kurobe River running down from the mountains, which you can se at times is swelled by meltwater

Swerving around the comms towers on the highlands as I make my way east towards Kirkwall

Harder touchdown than usual since I was going so slow I stalled and dropped a bit on my flare, but nothing damaging

Following the Murchison River on base leg it was tempting to turn onto final towards that strip out my window but that is actually a road, the runway is out the window to the left of the strut

Getting ready to go at Rif flugvöllur

Passing the Hellissandur longwave radio mast, taking care to spot and avoid the guy wires holding it up

Looking at a mountain range rising like the spine of a lizard

Taxiing out I noticed this aircraft flying past that didn't show on my TCAS and wondered if maybe they were headed here

Looking back at the mountains I was just traveling along as well as out to Sado Island

Mt. Issaikyo and Mount Azuma-kofuji (the crater) with Fukushima lying beyond

Looking out over the Nasu mountain range

Looking along the Mogami River past Kahoku towards Yamagata

Still climbing, passing Mt Hayama

Autopilot on before the buffeting mountain air causes me to have a conniption

Looking out the window at these farm fields and wondering at what the chevron patterns are for

Picking up the highway towards Niigata, switching off AP and descending for a better view of the city and surrounding area

A protected estuary of the Niigo River

Descending for approach, making sure I don't get too low too fast as the terrain is still mountainous close to the shore

Taxiing straight off for parking

The large rise indicative of shield volcano activity as I look towards Mount Emmons

Nothing so far, coming back around for another pass over the area

3,500' isn't going to cut it, will have to continue up to at least 5,500'

Back down to 1,500' and keeping it on manual as I plan to carve through some valleys instead of going over the mountains
