That tailwind is still with me and has sped up considerably letting me nose down into a pretty high-speed 3° descent angle as I begin my descent
Winds are not dying down below 24,000' and I'm kind of bummed I didn't think to pay a visit to Kilimanjaro so you know what? Let's do that. A low-altitude airway intersection will take me right by the mountain and since I definitely don't have the endurance to spare, will have to divert and refuel. Thankfully I was able to reroute and the FMS followed the new plan without issue
Route direct towards the Seychelles also managed to take me through most of the clear sky as I climbed up past the clouds
Cruising at only 25,500' because the winds only get worse higher up. Set power for range, but even then I'm cutting it close to reserves while also having to fly slower. Also, I mistakenly hit a key or something because my transponder reset to US/Canada VFR code 1200. There's a button for that on the display but I did not press it. This is when the code changed but I never noticed or corrected it during the flight
Civilization meets wilderness as farm fields are cut off at the border of the South- Western Mau National Reserve. The green also quickly gives way to parched farmland in the south
Looking past Lake Naivasha and over the Aberdare Range towards Mount Kenya - the 2nd-tallest peak in Africa. I am now heading towards THE tallest peak
Got my climb rate set to Vx and keeping a close eye on my power settings and turbine temperatures. I also notice that my altitude is already set to standard pressure, because I somehow missed setting it during preflight. It's a checklist item! Epic fail
Good climb so far up to cruise, no turbine temp or pressurization issues. Looks like two people are tripping together down the African coast
Not sure how the flaps got deployed (see indicator bottom-left on right-hand display) and it took me a while to realize what was making the aircraft behave weirdly. Easy fix, no harm done - although the PoH does state you shouldn't do this above 15,000'
Top of descent, gotta head down through only slightly broken clouds. I *should* be far enough past the higher mountains but I'm not following an IFR arrival route...
Although they gave me Runway 4L as I expected, I was able to request 4R to keep me clear of any incoming AI traffic
Breaking through the clouds over Beaulieu-sur-Mer and turning towards the airport with Nice spread out before it
