The FFF+ group challenge "Five On The Fifth" (FOTF) - five images in the form of a collage uploaded on the 5th of each month. This month was "Sign of the times" and was set by the lovely Greenstone Girl.
My theme revolves around the different music mediums that have been the "Sign of my Times" (His Master's Voice abit before mine :)). Thanks Andrew for cutting out the records for me (PS 101 and I failed).
His Masters Voice -Shellac 78 rpm recordings, made under the company’s famous trademark of the painting His Master’s Voice, executed in 1898 by Francis Barraud, of his brother’s dog Nipper listening to a Berliner disc gramophone.
Vinyl records- LP 33 1⁄3 rpm record and the 45 rpm single records are made from vinyl plastic. They had become a talismanic object in the 70s and 80s but left the mainstream around 1991.
Compact Cassettes were invented in 1962 and as the technology improve, it became a popular (and re-recordable) alternative to the 12-inch vinyl LP during the late 1970s. Remember all the work that went into recording your favourite songs from the radio, sitting and waiting for them to come up so you could hit record!! Their use declined markedly by late 1980s. I'll never forget when my entire cassette collection was stolen from my car from the carpark at Uni representing so much work.
CDs-1982 saw the first release of digital media in the form of CDs (Compact Discs). I'll never forget a friend of mine asking me to "turn over" the CD to play the other side!
iPods -Various forms of portable media now dominate the music market, starting with the iPod type products with the first version was released on October 23, 2001.
Sometimes these things are circular and records have had a resurgence due to their superior audio qualities without compressing the music as e.g 9.2 million records were sold in the U.S. in 2014, a 260% increase since 2009.
Death Valley Dunes.....that's Steve taking a shot down in the dunes. Spent the day out playing with Steve, (Steve's Reflections) in Death Valley. (Sunrise to Sunset) We really didn't get the sunrise we were waiting for but it's still a blast to be out in the middle of nowhere, laying in the sand, enjoying the solitude.
See all my Death Valley pic's..........especially my Death Valley Racetrack (Moving Rocks) shots..........

Flash photo taken on a dark, snowy night, high up in the Alberta Rockies.
I look forward to comments and critiques, but please bear in mind that this was taken in pitch black, in the Rocky Mountains at 7,800 feet, in the middle of a cold, starless, and snowy night; that the fox was cagey and would not stand still; and all I had in my hand was a point and shoot Olympus TG-610 with a flash...

St Mary's Lighthouse is on the tiny St Mary's (or Bait) Island, just north of Whitley Bay on the coast of North East England. The small rocky tidal island is linked to the mainland by a short concrete causeway which is submerged at high tide. The lighthouse and adjacent keepers' cottages were built in 1898 by the John Miller company of Tynemouth, using 645 blocks of stone and 750,000 bricks.

In the thick of the pandemic, we went to the gliderport in La Jolla for an outdoor picnic. I snagged this image of a paraglider cutting through the air. I posted the photo and the paraglider spotted it and said, "Hey! That's me!" Matt asked for a copy of this image and sent it to his family who he hadn't seen because of the pandemic.

The Bow River is a river in the Canadian province of Alberta. It begins in the Rocky Mountains and winds through the Alberta foothills onto the prairies where it meets the Oldman River, the two then forming the South Saskatchewan River. These waters ultimately flow through the Nelson River into Hudson Bay. The Bow River runs through the city of Calgary, taking in the Elbow River at the historic site of Fort Calgary near downtown. The Bow River pathway, developed along the river's banks, is considered a part of Calgary's self-image.

Driving home from Matamata, I stopped to take a few shots of some cornfields.
It was blowing so hard, I couldn't see the rows I was after, then this scene with the sunlight on the green grass, dark sky and windblown trees caught my eye.

Every Wednesday evening for 355 consecutive weeks, a crowd has gathered inside Rumble House in downtown Calgary to create art together. The two-hour art rumbles, as they’re called, are followed by an auction of the pieces. Both events – free and open to all – have become a mainstay for a diverse group of Calgarians.
