The Calgary Stampede White Hat Drop was an event that took place on May 9, 2012 in Vancouver, Toronto, and Calgary. In each city, 200 participants each picked one of 200 white cowboy hats that had been “dropped” on the ground, in the hopes of winning a VIP Calgary Stampede experience, including tickets to see the sold-out Garth Brooks concert to be held in the Saddledome in July during Stampede Week. In Calgary, the event took place in the Olympic Plaza in the heart of the city's downtown.

The Rotunda, dedicated in honour of Ernest and Elizabeth Samuel, is the Museum’s ceremonial entrance hall. It features one of the Museum’s most magnificent architectural treasures—a spectacular mosaic dome that has fascinated generations of staff and visitors.
Charles T. Currelly, the first director of the Royal Ontario Museum of Archaeology, conceived of this mosaic introduction for the 1933 addition. The mosaic ceiling was designed to reflect the breadth of the collections, being adorned with patterns and symbols representing cultures throughout the ages and around the world.
The ceiling is made from thousands of sheets of imported Venetian glass, cut into more than a million tiny coloured squares. A team of skilled workers laboured for eight months to install the ceiling.
Its sparkling gold, rust and bronze background is inset with red, blue and turquoise patterns, recalling the magnificent mosaics of the Byzantine world and Eastern Europe. Worked out on the golden field are geometrical borders and panels which frame decorative floral designs. The central panel is inscribed with a passage from the Book of Job in the Old Testament: “That all men may know his work”.

My entry for last week's category "Dark" in the FlickrChallenge - Weekly group.
This is a crop of the half moon last night -- I know it doesn't show what we normally call the dark side of the moon, but the concept is what counts.

Another entry for the "Switch your Gender for 0L$ Flickr Challenge". This one is kind of an easy way out, cause the whole avatar is a hunt gift - that means everything you see is included, from shape to skin to eyes to hair and clothing and boots.
Nevertheless - a brillant made avatar. The skin is very decent. And for all female avatars who have a hard time to find some free male shapes and skins - there are also male avatars to receive as huntreward.
The hunt is going on at this place - better hurry up, cause i do not know how long this hunt will be on :-))
My cousin, Alan, the father of the bride, was responsible for transporting the bridal party across the field to the wedding location upon a vista by using this tractor. My cousin Katie is the bride, beside her is her best friend and maid/matron of honor, and her twin sisters Sarah and Elizabeth. This was a fun wedding and a great time with family.
Therefore, this will be an entry into the Ohio Foothills challenge of "Family Fun". This is family and this was fun.
Also, can you tell the photography bug runs in the family? The father of the bride is also transporting his Canon camera around his neck!
This cardinal was coming in for a landing on an icy pine branch during the late January ice storm. I have been holding off on posting this picture, so I could use it as an Ohio Foothills challenge entry.

I've been wanting to do a selective color shot for a while, so the Ohio Foothills challenge for the month "Red" gave me the opportunity to do it.
When I went to Scioto Trail State Park, I originally had planned to photograph one of the rusty red painted bridges reflecting in the water. However, Caldwell Lake was still mostly frozen. My search for red was not in vain, as I noticed this red sign. The red didn't really stand out very well in the color version since the sign was in the shade. I think selective color helped tremendously.

Nothing says "Summer Fun" to me more that swimming. It is my favorite summer time activity.
Since I couldn't very easily photograph myself swimming for the Ohio Foothills July Challenge "Summer Fun", I had to enlist some volunteers. These young ladies were more than happy to oblige. These two sisters and their friend (in the middle) are race to leap into the pool on a hot summer day. Thanks girls!

but I didn't mean I was ready for this kind of WINDY spring weather!! The wind is so strong this evening (duh, right? there's a high wind warning and a tornado watch); Todd's at the high school as I type checking out the MIA portion of the gym roof...yikes! I'm keeping my fingers crossed to keep power. I took this pic during one of the recent snowy days; it's the driver's side of my car, Roonie, reflecting my neighbors' homes and snowy yards. Roonie is actually more of a maroon-colored convertible (hence the name Roonie), but I played with the color to make it a more vibrant red. I'm definitely ready for some warm weather so Roonie can come out and play...he hates snow!

This is my entry for the Flick Challenge Weekly Machinery category. The Doctor Who epsiode is Tom Baker in "The Hand of Fear", which was loaned to me by a neighbor after my interest in the Doctor had been revived by the 2005 relaunch.
Little League provided a lot of great summer fun, memories, and learning experiences growing up. So, when the Ohio Foothills July challenge was announced, I knew I needed to do something involving baseball or softball. When I was over photographing the action at the local fields, this leaping ball player caught my eye and I was fortunate enough to capture the play.
My original plan with this shot was to simply cut the young ball player out because I didn't like the background. However, I decided to play with some of the art and features included in Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 and this simple cutout became much more. My apologies to the purists and minimalists out there. We will return to normal programming now. However, I reserve the right to play with Photoshop art in the future! :)
Here's my first entry for the Ohio Foothills "Long and Winding Road" April challenge. This was taken in Walnut Creek in Holmes County, Ohio. My cousin is in the process of buying the farm at the top of the hill from his father. The red barn on the farm is somewhat of a landmark in the area.
A single fern frond, each leaflet mirroring the next — nature’s quiet obsession with pattern and order. Captured on a damp forest trail, the repetition and symmetry of the leaves create a rhythm that feels both mathematical and alive.
