It is found in boreal forests of North America north to the tree line, and in the Rocky Mountains subalpine zone south to New Mexico and Arizona. A fairly large songbird, the Canada jay has pale grey underparts, darker grey upperparts, and a grey-white head with a darker grey nape.

Red is the Ohio Foothills theme challenge of the month and this will be one of my entries into the monthly contest. Although she's not all red her male counterpart, she is quite adorable in this pose, even with a mouthful of seed.
A ball bearing is a type of rolling-element bearing that uses balls to maintain the separation between the bearing races. The purpose of a ball bearing is to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial loads. It achieves this by using at least two races to contain the balls and transmit the loads through the balls. In most applications, one race is stationary and the other is attached to the rotating assembly (e.g., a hub or shaft). As one of the bearing races rotates it causes the balls to rotate as well. Because the balls are rolling they have a much lower coefficient of friction than if two flat surfaces were sliding against each other.

Here is my submission for the Good Panda Flickr Contest Challenge during the downtime this week. :)
My little panda had an adventure at work with me on May 22nd! He was helping me set up urine cultures.
As a disclaimer regarding HIPPA, that is my own urine in the cup. (Yes, the lengths I go for photography sometimes.) I did not use a patient's urine. I also gave it a fake label "Jane Doe" with a creative birthday.
Rules: On May 22, during actual downtime, print and cut out the image that will appear on teh homepage at flickr.com, and take your photo of the little panda on an adventure somewhere. When the site's back up, upload your photo to Flickr, tag it with #goodpandacontest and add it to the Good Panda Photo Contest group.
A birdhouse is a man-made enclosure provided for birds to nest in. Placing nestboxes or roosting boxes may also be used to help maintain populations of particular species in an area. The nest box was invented by the British conservationist Charles Waterton in the early 19th century to encourage more birdlife and wildfowl on the nature reserve he set up on his estate.

René Lévesque (1922 – 1987) was a reporter, a minister of the government of Quebec (1960–1966), the founder of the Parti Québécois political party, and the 23rd Premier of Quebec. The mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) is a deer indigenous to western North America. It is named for its ears, which are large like those of the mule. The most noticeable differences between white-tailed and mule deer are the size of their ears, and the colour of their tails. The mule deer's tail is black-tipped, Mule deer are generally more associated with the Rocky Mountain region of North America.

Nymphaea is a genus of hardy and tender aquatic plants in the family Nymphaeaceae. The genus has a cosmopolitan distribution. Many species are cultivated as ornamental plants, and many cultivars have been bred. Some taxa occur as introduced species where they are not native, and some are weeds. Plants of the genus are known commonly as water lilies, or waterlilies in the United Kingdom. The genus name is from the Greek νυμφαια, nymphaia and the Latin nymphaea, which mean "water lily" and were inspired by the nymphs of Greek and Latin mythology.

The cat (Felis catus) is a small carnivorous mammal. It is the only domesticated species in the family Felidae and often referred to as the domestic cat to distinguish it from wild members of the family. The cat is either a house cat, kept as a pet; or a feral cat, freely ranging and avoiding human contact. A house cat is valued by humans for companionship and for its ability to hunt rodents.

Last July, our Ohio Foothills group's challenge was "Red, White, and Blue". My supervisor had bought us Tim Hortons donuts and I grabbed this one immediately and saved it for a photoshoot after work. I had debated on using this shot in last year's challenge, but did not.
Now our challenge for July is Americana, so this will be my second entry into the contest. Check out the group page under discussion if you are interested in joining in the fun.
This is ring 6 out of 52!
Fabricated with sterling silver featuring a gorgeous Oregon Opal (StoneTemple on etsy).
This one was fun. I wanted to do something that shows this stone on both sides and see through like stained glass. It was a bear to get the back plate to fit just right in to the cutout on the bottom plate. Also difficult to get the shank to fit flush against the plate... Back to basics... Solder is NOT filler!!! I had to put the heat to this more times than I should have. I am happy with how it turned out.
Tempered glass, unglazed porcelain, and stained glass.
I replaced the previous photo with this one taken in natural light. It shows more of the grout variations and the painting behind the tempered glass.

I spy with my "red" little eye...so I'm zipping down the road (specifically Shyville Road, which on the north end connects Pike Hill to 32); anyway, out of the corner of my eye, I see something red; lo and behold, it just happens to be in the back yard of my principal, Mr. Bloomfield, who is a car aficionado. With this glimpse, I assume that it's a volkswagon, because he literally COLLECTS volkswagons...new ones, old ones, dilapidated ones :) So one morning at school, I ask him about the red vehicle I've spotted. It turns out that there are two red vehicles back there...this one, which is a 1958 Lloyd (a German engineered vehicle built for just a brief amount of time--it has a WOODEN frame!!). Mr. B. is hoping to work on Lloydie (as I've named him) and restore him somewhat. For now though, he happily rests...reducing to rust...but with grand hopes of restoration :)
