Be weird! Who cares?

This Blythe doll is Lady Panacea. I’ve gathered a lot of Halloween props and I can’t wait for October, so I’m starting to use them now! I love this disco ball pumpkin I found at Target.

A quick still life after being a slacker and leaving my photo to the last minute. Luckily these sunflowers were ready to be cut up and displayed.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

We can’t wait until to tomorrow to say HAPPY EASTER! (But we will say it tomorrow, too!)

Today I wished to test a very simple recipe of a lime cheesecake I read in a magazine.

I invited 2 good friends to have a cup of tea with me and share this new cake recipe.

I broke the cake when I pulled it off the tin... so the picture is far from perfect but the cake was delicious!

This time, our Photo of the Month is a little bit different, but comes with a very important message for all photographers out there.

‘Photographers Portrait’, this creative flat-lay shot by Swedish photographer Rania Maria Rönntoft, came from a photo she entered for a contest on Instagram. The aim of the contest was “What’s In My Bag” and called for a flat-lay (overhead) shot of the gear and equipment that one needed to stay inspired and do their creative work.

When Rania explained her idea for her shot to her boyfriend Andreas, he said, “What about you? Sure, you need those things to execute an idea. But it all starts with you.” Here he pointed to her head. “The creative process begins in there."

“That’s how this gear-focused photo of ‪#‎whatsinmybag‬ turned into a self-portrait,” tells the photographer. “I never even considered myself as a part of what I do... Weird, huh?”

Therefore, in this month’s Photo of the Month, we are highlighting the photographer behind the image. Because Rania and Andreas are absolutely correct- it all starts with you.

Have a lovely March everyone!

AAW February 10 - 17: Square Format

WIT: I thought I'd try a layflat still life in a square format. Took the picture, and in post, cropped to square, and got rid of some spots and increased the saturation. Then I ate the blueberries, and used the lemons for my martini.

The Eastman Kodak Darkroom Scale emerged as a pivotal tool for photographers throughout the late 1800s and well into the 1900s. Its primary function was to meticulously measure and blend chemicals, ensuring a level of precision that was indispensable for achieving accurate and consistent results in the intricate development process.

Photographers of this era were heavily reliant on manual techniques within the darkroom. The careful measurement of chemicals, including developers and fixers, played a crucial role in realizing the desired outcomes in photography. The implementation of a weigh scale became instrumental in this regard, enabling photographers to precisely gauge the quantities of each chemical. This precision not only facilitated the creation of high-quality prints but also contributed significantly to the standardization of the overall development process.

The Eastman Kodak Darkroom Scale stands as a testament to the dedication to craftsmanship in early photography, providing photographers with the means to master the delicate chemistry involved in the creation of their images.

One of my many hobbies is jewelry making, earrings, bracelets, etc. These are some of the materials and tools that I use to create "pretty things". This photo technique is called a Flat Lay.

from a long-ago, unforgettable trip to Hawaii.

Fresh and dried. Variety is the spice of life and if you cook like I do this is just a sampling of what you'll find in the kitchen. Shot for the Compositionally Challenged groups, April Most Versatile challenge. Shot on my dear M.I.L.'s good silver because it hasn't been out in a while.

Smile on Saturday theme: Flat Lay 😊

Thanks to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated. 😊

So today I had to stick close to home because the landlords were coming to fix something in the house.

Being stuck inside I figured it would be a good time to clean out the fridge, turned out the eggs were about to pass their best before date and I had a couple bananas from a neighbour who emptied their fridge into mine before snowbirding somewhere warm for a couple months... so what choice did I have?

It was banana bread time; just a half batch today because I normally prefer to at least double the amount of bananas, but this will do for a quick snack!

Oh, if you're interested, the recipe is from the Joy of Baking.

Hope everyone has had a good day.

A flatlay still life of stones and shell from Looe Beach in Cornwall set against a rock texture shot on nearby Polperro beach

I can't believe it's October already - there's a distinct nip in the air as winter marches ever closer. The hedgerows are laden with berries, perhaps as a response to the summer drought. Shame the squirrels have had all the hazelnuts - might be able to scrounge a few walnuts, if I’m lucky. We'll see…

Important during these difficult times :-)

I am getting the most bang for my buck practicing with my cookies from Sweet Shop Natalie. I feel like my compositions are too stiff, I want more flow so I guess I need to keep practicing.
