Laurel Hill Cemetery is more than just a cemetery. It is an outdoor sculptural garden, a horticultural gem and a truly unique historical resource. It also happens to be one of the few cemeteries in the United States to be honored with the designation of National Historic Landmark.
Numerous prominent people are buried at the Cemetery, including many of Philadelphia’s leading industrial magnates. Names such as Rittenhouse, Widener, Elkins and Strawbridge certainly pique local interests, but Laurel Hill also appeals to a national audience. General Meade and thirty-nine other Civil War-era generals reside here, in addition to six Titanic passengers. As in its earliest days, Laurel Hill’s natural beauty and serenity continue to render it a bucolic retreat nestled within the city’s limits overlooking the Schuylkill River. This beautiful green space is further complemented by the breathtaking art, sculpture and architecture that can be found here. These are just some of the many attributes that render Laurel Hill Cemetery a primary destination for local and national visitors to the City of Brotherly Love.
I received a flash for my birthday. So I've been playing with it. In this photo, I bounced the flash back over my left-shoulder to lighten the shadows that obscured her face, as you can see in the no-flash shot.
A pleasant evening walk in Hollyrood Park earlier this month. Due to vast amounts of work I had forgotten this folder and had a little fun editing it. Some experimental editing and flash photography in here too. I even ventured into a little split toning. Enjoy.
Knapping is the art of making stone tools using other stones, antlers or bone to chip away and form sharp edges for axes, knives and arrows. There is research to show that the same area of your brain used to make tools this way is also the same for speech. Scientists believe this process of tool making may have helped us evolve speech and communication skills. Many of which have been put to great use in the museum this project was shot in.
Its early days for the project but I am planning on making a book with these images and hopefully some others.

Lovely site. They're currently looking for submissions, although I'm not sure what their criteria are
CHIAMATELO FLASH

Haven't taken any photos for close to a year now. My wife suggested I dust off the old camera and flash. So in the evening we went for a walk-about with our friends along the Nipissing lakeshore.
Used one Sb-900 hard at about 30 degree camera left, trigered by radiopoppers, post processed in Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5 with the Topaz 5 to boot!
Processed hard for hard lighting not what I would typically do for portrait work, but it seemed right at the time!
430EX bounced off white ceiling, small flashlight camera right pointed into flash, 50D, 50mm, 1/200, f5.6, ISO 200.
I can find relatively little info on this strobe. My mom gave it to me recently since she has quit photography. It does work.
