Flash Fun

Nikon SB 600 Remote trigger from the left

This series of shots are all taken using an externallly mounted Canon 580 EX-II Flash set on manual and High sync mode. The advantages of flash are particularly evident in the Golden Whistler taken at Hunchy, which was strongly back lit. I think the use of flash should be kept to a minimum so that it is not imediately evident. The brown Cuckoo dove is a good example of too much flash leaving an unnatural shadow on the branch behind the bird.

The red flashing lights are turned on just before engines start and turned off after engines are shut down (walking near an operating jet engine or turboprop is more dangerous than juggling chain saws: when ground personnel see those red lights flashing, they know the engines are running and the area is unsafe; white wingtip strobes are typically turned on near the runway because they are a distraction to other pilots on the ground); as for the red optical edging effects in the airplane window, let me here mention the significant visual phenomenon of polarization, which describes the tendency of light waves to oscillate in a certain direction

This Halloween we decided to have a flash trip to Disneyland Paris to celebrate the halloween party. It was all decided in the last moment and it's been quite a fun couple of days. Thursday we decided to spend the day in Paris. Early in the morning we went to a Café in Le Marais neighbourhood and it was so nice to be quietly seated there, sipping a nice coffee and just enjoying the beautiful city through the window that I grabbed the camera and let my feelings shot this photograph. This was not a photo weekend as I just wanted to enjoy the Halloween festivity and my couple so I decided to just take the Coolpix camera.... I had a really fun time with it and results are not that bad :).

Flash Forward

...Durante um exercício com flash externo, realizei essa foto de minha esposa (não tenham a idéia da dificuldade que foi pra convencê-la!!!) . O efeito ao lado, com luz em desfoque, também é conhecida por BOKEH, um palavra vinda do japonês. Esse efeito juntamente com o enquadramento realizado, tornou a foto mais interessante, pois preencheu espaços vazios e escuros, quase sempre comuns em fotos noturnas e externas. O que ajudou no bokeh dessa foto foi primordialmente a abertura do diafragma mais enquadramento fechado com objetiva tele. Observação: Foco pontual no olho direito, pois se o olho estiver focado, a sensação será que todo o corpo também estará...outra observação, pelo que me lembro, foi minha primeira foto de bokeh....portanto....estou buscando ainda o aprendizado!!T+

Presenting my collection of illustrated flash fiction, Flash 52 at the Montevideo Art Book Fair (Feria de Arte Impreso de Montevideo).

I took this picture around 8:30 as it was starting to get dark. I used the archway to frame the intersection where I was able to get the cars moving. There was some glare from the light but overall I like this picture. I used a tripod to keep the camera still.
