I shot this with on board flash.... 11x14 peice of glass for the reflection on top of a black cloth with a slight over head angle. Used a tripod to get a sharper image.

Testing my new mini slave flash (Morris mini Slave Flash Plus), to try and remove the shadow created by having just one flash.

Some experimentation with my (then) new flash. Flash was set up behind and below the flowers. The background is a black shirt hand-held just far enough away to be effectively invisible.

The Avalon Area (which includes Avalon/Lost Lake, Glen Artney and Orange Grove) of Patapsco Valley State Park in Elkridge took a direct hit from the May 27, 2018 flash floods impacting Ellicott City and the surrounding areas. Assessment and cleanup will affect access over the next several weeks. Bikers, hikers and other park patrons should frequent other parts of the park, which will remain open and operate as normal.
Spent some time at Longwood Gardens fooling with Off Camera Flash. The idea here was to manually set the camera to UNDER EXPOSE the image causing the backgrounds to become darker. The off camera flash was optically triggered to throw some light onto the flower in the foreground. It took some experimenting to determine the best flash power setting. Going off camera with the flash also allowed positioning it to reduce shadows. The camera's built-in flash was set to a low power setting (-3) so it would not contribute much towards lighting the scene but was still enough to act as a trigger.
There was a thunder-storm over my home tonight and I took a hand at attempting to capture some lightning, there were lots of bursts, but either never in frame or my shutter was closed at the time.

a loyal customer's melted Nikon SB800 flash. this is the 5th flash he's done this to. i've never seen or heard of anything like this in my life.
Testing A-setting for fill light outdoors Pentax K-1, FA* 2.8 80-200mm. Two speedlights. 125s F/8. JPGs with no editing except crop and resize. I was using a Godox X-Pro(P) trigger for the Godox flash. A non-TTL cord for the Pentax flash.
PS: In the real world it's not enough to measure the insident light in the model face/in the shadow. You must measure the light at the background as well. The background should rule the shutter speed and aperture. The flash light should add some light to the ambient light, hitting the model. So the flash (key light) should match the shooting aperture.

Photowalk 37 of 52 - Killen's Pond - Manual / Flash and Umbrella
For this walk I wasn't exactly sure what to do. It was drizzling rain and on Sunday so I needed to do something. The rest of the week had been busy so this was the only time I had to do my photowalk. I decided to play with my flash and my new flash stand and umbrella. I took two of my kids to the park with me and we found a nice little place to take some shots without the rain interfering.
