Flash, the first Equestria boy, it's about time, he has some chips on the back of his hair and a slight one on his eye, I'm a bit upset about that, he also has some marks too, but apart from that he is great, I like his outfit a bit bummed his shirt is painted but the single one is like that too I doubt Sainsbury's ever got that one in but it's ok I am happy and lucky to have at least one of him, it would be nice to see more boys but I doubt that.
My girlfriends little niece Zoe, taken during an in-promptu 'environmental' portrait session at my home in Scotland. In this shot young Zoe is leaning on the highly reflective coffee table in front of a large window - the blue-ish background is actually my car! I am firing an on camera (aaaaggghhh) strobe over my head, off the back wall/roof - creating this almost dreamlike soft light. Shooting wide-open on a 70-200mm, D2X.
None of this shoot was setup - it is all reportage style as Zoe went about playing - taking the opportunities when she looked at the camera!
My newly acquired Sony DSC-R1 doesn't have a tele like my Lumix, but it has two other strengths: A bigger sensor and a flash hot-shoe for an extra GN 32 flash. That does make the tree show up behind all the closer snow flakes.
Kitten is crazy!
Our theme for this week's Miss Match project was Flash. I worked with Katherine Olson and we came up with an interesting combo.

This photo (taken without the flash this time) is of my fourth (and latest) police cap; in fact, I only got it yesterday. While it's an improvement on the last cap I got (which I got two years ago) being a snug fit, I'm not sure whether the crown stands up at the back when worn (which it shouldn't) and therefore behaves like caps worn by most male officers.
One thing I do know is that it was made by C.W. Headdress (Compton Sons & Webb) because the maker's sticker (albeit a bit faded) is still in situ. If my first ever rose top helmet (which I no longer have) is anything to go by, then is probably dates from the mid 90s.
Plus, unlike the last two caps I had (with padded crowns) this one has a little hole to take a slider badge but, to take pronged badges, it still needs the holes punching in. Like the cap it has just replaced, it is badged up a Cheshire cap.

Electronic Cordless Flash Meter.
(The little black box)
I used this meter in-studio ad on location in the 1980s. I've seen these with other brand names. Operating on one 9v battery, the meter is placed in the scene and set to "On." When the flash is tripped, the meter registers and holds the reading until it is reset. High and Low ranges (red/black switch). The black arrow is turned to the f-number matching the meter reading, ad correct exposure is opposite the film speed.
One drawback: the switch is easy to turn on accidentally (like when putting it away), reducing battery life.

More from the TriCentre's hugely successful Hallocross race in Edinburgh.
Only light source in the pictures is from the riders lights. Long expusures of 15-30 seconds.
Striker Bill Dearden features on the cover of a 16-page Sheffield United programme (6p) issued in April 1973 for a visit to Bramall Lane by First Division rivals Coventry City. A 19,992 crowd saw Blades win 3-1. The goalkeeper captured diving at Dearden's feet is Crystal Palace's John Jackson.
A 'Doing the 92' tick (No 4).
got this free from the Strobist Giveaway. kurbster_photography was kind enough to give the flash to me the winner...
loving it so far. and love the built in optical slave. The construction is not bad. small and compact. No zoom head but its ok. It has been mod'd to have 3.5 jack. awesome lil flash.
