PCB for Cree led flash module. Inside the opening for the Mitutoyo 10X lens. The 12 power leds are not solderd but connected via 24 x M2 brass screws which press on the led contacts. I can even modify LED types with the same module. Soon there will be another picture where the LEDs are mounted.
The 12 LEDs are divided into 6 groups. Each time there are two LEDs connected together on the PCB. LEDs shine through the 12 holes of 8mm diameter each. Each group can be controlled separately. The direction and amount of light may be a result set.
Who remembers Flash's field off Bradford Place in Penarth. Now built over by retirement flats. Once a favourite playground behing the ymin woods.

E nem estava Sol qdo eu passei. Pq o Flash Back não precisa de Sol não, minha gente! Ele brilha até embaixo da cama! Diria que na luz amarela o efeito é praticamente igual a luz solar. Mtoooo lindo!
Mas nem o Astro Rei resistiu a esse lindo... Passei ontem e hj, qdo ia fazer as fotos, saiu um Sol lindooooooo! Consequência: fiquei mais de meia hora em dúvida de qual foto postava... E essas fotos foram tiradas na minha janela, numa frestinha de luz que estava batendo ali.
Os Laylas são, com certeza absoluta, os esmaltes mais holográficos da minha coleção!
Precisa dizer que eu AMEI? Não vejo a hora de usar o prata Mercury Twilight!!! Mto amor esses Laylas!

The flash with the heads mounted on the reversed and gutted rear lens cap.
The system of velcro actually works really well and gives me lots of options for mounting the flash on other setups.
I've made one other velcro thing for my lens hood of the 70-300.
The next photo is from this setup.
The only big issue here is that the flash guts can't handle the current and one of the little containers of smoke broke, letting out that precious blue smoke and now it doesn't work :(
However, I did have a much larger and older flash gun just sitting around. So I ripped out the bulb and wired the cable into it, so it should be more reliable and sturdy.
Overall, I am impressed with this little job. It went well and the final product was as good as I expected it to be.
My next effort will be better and prettier, this will do for now.
Two DIY flash modifiers I made today. One is a simple mini-softbox similar to a previous design. It differs in that it's made from foam core and uses white cloth as it diffusing material.
The other is a new design.
Alcohol bottles are a commonly used to create DIY diffusers. But this one is a little different.
It's a large sized round (cylinder) bottle made with the same translucent white plastic making it ideal softening/diffusing material.
I built this as though it were a mini-softbox, but with a round opening allowing for the severed bottle to fit snugly.
The "softbox" protrudes about 2.5 from the flash, and the bottle about 2 inches with a 4 inch diameter.
It's sized to fit to a Vivitar 285HV flash, and is held on using Velcro straps.

Setup for my specular reflection test using my homemade custom specular shaper (a piece of paper printed with the desired spot shape for the specular reflection). I don't know if others have also had this idea, but it came to me tonight after looking through David Hobby's Strobist group.
Here's an example using this setup.
Strobist: Vivitar 285HV at 1/16th with ebay trigger, positioned at camera left and bounced off the custom specular reflector above; Sigma EF-500DG Super at 1/4th optically triggered by the Vivitar, camera right diffused with a sheet of printer paper. ISO 100, f/16. Color corrected with Canon Digital Photo Professional. Only difference here is camera position.
