I saw 5 guys outside five guys, I was like this is perfect…I walked in front of them and was really hoping the guy on the bike would look up at me, but after a little while he got on his bike and rode off…

This is Five Points, a cocktail created at Death & Co in Denver, Colorado and published in the Happy Hour Handbook in 2020 (see note). The drink's namesake comes from the Five Points neighborhood in Denver which is also where Death & Co is located. This is a spirit-forward cocktail that uses a split-base of reposado tequila and mezcal. This base modified by two bitter elements, Punt e Mes and Amaro Nardini. Punt e Mes is unlike a lot of sweet vermouths since it is significantly more bitter, even to the point of sometimes being considered an amaro. Nardini is an amaro with only three botanicals (bitter orange, peppermint, gentian root) and does well to harmonize the agave spirits and the Punt e Mes. There's a bit of walnut liqueur which is a type of addition that is hard to notice, but evident when it's missing. The Xocolatl Mole bitters always goes well with agave spirits and really puts the finishing touch on this drink. For a drink without a lot of "age" in its spirits, it drinks a lot like smoky and complex Manhattan.
1.5 oz tequila (they use Tequila Ocho)
0.5 oz mezcal (they use Del Maguey Vida)
0.5 oz Punt e Mes
0.5 oz Amaro Nardini
1 tsp walnut liqueur also called nocino
2 dashes Bittermens Xocolatl Mole bitters
Combine all of the ingredients into a mixing glass. Add ice and stir until arctic cold. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass like a Nick and Nora. Garnish with an orange peel.
Note: The Happy Hour Handbook is a compilation of cocktail and appetizer recipes collected from Denver bars. All proceeds from the book sales go to support the restaurants that contributed during this difficult season.

This year I spent five days in Cork and it was my intention to photograph the interior of Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral but I got distracted and forgot to return to the area.
Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral is a cathedral of the Church of Ireland in Cork city, Ireland. It is in the ecclesiastical province of Dublin. Begun in 1863, the cathedral was the first major work of the Victorian architect William Burges. Previously the cathedral of the Diocese of Cork, it is now one of three cathedrals in the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross.
The current cathedral is built on the site of at least two previous structures dedicated to Finbarr of Cork. The first dated from the 7th century, with works continuing through the 12th century. This building was damaged during the Siege of Cork (1690), and a new structure was built in 1735 - though elements of the earlier spire were retained.
This structure remained until the 1860s, when a competition for the building of a new larger cathedral was held 1862. In February 1863, the designs of the architect William Burges was declared the winner of the competition to build a new cathedral of St Fin Barre. His diary records his reaction - "Got Cork!" - whilst the cathedral accounts record the payment of the winning prize sum of £100. Building work took seven years before the first service was held in the cathedral in 1870. Building, carving and decoration continued into the 20th century, long after Burges's death in 1881.
The style of the building is Early French, Burges's favoured period and a style he continued to favour throughout his life, choosing it for his own home, The Tower House, in Kensington. The stipulated price for construction was to be £15,000, a sum vastly exceeded. The total cost came to significantly over £100,000. Burges was "unconcerned" (his own words) in his letter of January 1877 to the Bishop of Cork: "(In the future) the whole affair will be on its trial and, the elements of time and cost being forgotten, the result only will be looked at. The great questions will then be, first, is this work beautiful and, secondly, have those to whom it was entrusted, done it with all their heart and all their ability."
Burges oversaw all aspects of the design, including the architecture of the building, the statuary, the stained glass and the internal decoration. The result is "undoubtedly Burges's greatest work in ecclesiastical architecture".

The old rime is something like this:-
The Star which doesn't shine in the sky,
the Woodman who doesn't cut down trees,
the Ship that cannot sail the seas,
the Mill which doesn't grind corn,
and Who'd a Thought it!

...that's all that separates the antiquated "Pioneer" and the "William Mason," built five years later.
The Pioneer was built in 1851, by the Union Works in South Boston, Massachusetts, and purchased by the Cumberland Valley Rail Road (CVRR), a regional railroad serving Southern Pennsylvania and Western Maryland. Constructed of wrought and cast iron, with copper boiler tubes and a wooden cab, the 12-1/2 ton Pioneer was used to pull short passenger trains, consisting of one to three cars, between Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Hagerstown, Maryland. It is known as a "2-2-2" type locomotive due to its two small wheels in front, two larger wheels driven by steam pistons for propulsion, and two small wheels at the back. Pioneer is also a "tank engine," meaning that it has no separate tender for fuel and water. Water to supply the boiler is carried in a tank at the rear, with space for the wood supply above.
During the Civil War, the CVRR was an important line carrying supplies and Union troops to southern Pennsylvania and western Maryland -- and into northern Virginia. In 1862, troops under Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart raided Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and burned the engine house that protected Pioneer and several other locomotives. Some of these were destroyed, but the Pioneer escaped major damage and continued to serve the railroad until retired due to its diminutive size in 1901.
In 1901 Pioneer began its second career as an operating relic, a career that lasted almost until its 100th birthday. Pioneer appeared at numerous historical commemorations, including the Louisiana Purchase Exposition of 1904 at St. Louis; the B&O Railroad’s 100th anniversary Fair of the Iron Horse; the Chicago World's Fair of 1933; and the Chicago Railroad Fair of 1948-49. In 1961, the Pennsylvania Railroad, which had absorbed the CVRR many years before, donated Pioneer to the Smithsonian, where it was displayed in the Arts & Industries Building. In 1963, the little engine came to the National Museum of American History, in time for the museum's grand opening the following year.
In 2010, working extensively with curators and conservators of the National Museum of American History, the B&O Railroad Museum’s award winning restoration team began a yearlong project designed to stabilize and restore the locomotive to its appearance at the end of its operational life. Work included extensive repairs to flaking and damaged paint on the water tank, fenders, and wheels; removal of rust on exposed metal components; repair and replacement of missing and damaged metal components; and repainting that included meticulous hand painted detail, striping, and lettering.

It's sweet that they travel as couples. There were actually nine pairs, but some were underwater, fishing. They are diving ducks, not dabbling ducks like mallards. One is barely visible in the upper left.
