On July 11, 2022, Seabird Island and the First Nations Education Authority (FNEA) hosted an event to celebrate the implementation of First Nations Education Jurisdiction, which recognizes that First Nations who enter into education jurisdiction agreements with Canada will have law-making authority over their education systems on their land. The event included Participating First Nations, First Nations Leadership, the FNEA, First Nations Education Steering Committee, the Government of B.C., and the Government of Canada.

NASA's Lunar Orbiter 1 took the first photograph of Earth as seen from the vicinity of the Moon, in 1966. The five unmanned Lunar Orbiter missions mapped the Moon's surface in preparation for the forthcoming Apollo missions. Forty-two years later, NASA released this much higher-resolution version reprocessed from the original analog data tapes.

it's f.u.p.o.m. time, and I took advantage of peter attending by asking him some tips and tricks about flagstone folding. he had just tried this pattern and so we used it as an example.
completing the ring around the first hexagon was tough enough as it is. flagstones are weird...
I tried to extend the pattern by listening to what the paper told me to do.
I tried for some 2 hours or so.
I didn't understand the paper.
I got quite thoroughly frustrated.
back at home before going to bed I tried again. and bit by bit it really started to work.
I was really proud of myself. all the more so on the next day when peter told me that he had convinced himself that it couldn't be done. ha!
I just noticed, though, that I have probably cheated. not on purpose. solely by lack of knowledge. I am sorry!

I have some new material from the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness. This is the east end of First Dinkey Lake (elev. 9239') in a set of seven lakes accessible by a 10-mile loop hike. The mountains are the Three Sisters (highest 10,612'). There are 3 other lakes below the peaks on the loop.
The Dinkey Lakes Wilderness was named after a shepherd's dog. It's northeast of Shaver Lake, which is northeast of Fresno.
Access requires a 12-mile rough, partly paved road with numerous potholes and small rocks. Fortunately, on my trip there yesterday I got to break in my new Toyota 4Runner. It did well!
My group of 4 had a special treat at this lake: watching a couple of bald eagles flying over the lake. One swooped down and caught a fish in its talons.
