To my yard, that is. These rose-breasted grosbeaks were especially welcome since I've had no time to walk around and look for migrants this fall. They stopped to eat berries, along with a resident northern cardinal, in the dogwood tree in my front yard before moving on.
First rays of the warm December sun over the beautiful sandy beach of Fujairah.
I woke up from deep sleep and ran outside with the tripod just to capture this marvelous image.
These are the first roses to bloom in our backyard this year. Morgan County, Alabama - Knockout Roses.
Put in at boat-ramp of Lamoureax park, Cornwall Ontario. Our first paddle April 6. We had perfect conditions: 10 degrees celcius, sunny, calm. The only problem was river access because there's still a lot of shore ice. The only open water on the St. Lawrence is where there's current. Here at the boat ramp at Lamoureuaux park Cornwall downstream from the powerdam the current by the shore is about 2-3 knots, in the center of the channel about double. The water temperature is just above freezing. Fall in and your dead from hypothermia in 15 minutes (unless you have drysuits).

This bus was new to First Scotland East and transferred to Essex (Colchester) in November 2018.
The 'First Neighborhood' was developed in the 1960s as the first planned residential neighborhood in Westlake Village. This community of nearly 300 homes sits at the western-most edge of Los Angeles County and presents one vision of the quintessential American suburb.
The developer was a shipping magnate, Daniel Ludwig, and the overall town plan was the work of the famous Los Angeles architectural and planning firm A.C. Martin. Many of the individual homes were designed by R.J. Marwick.
Today, most homes have been renovated and are different enough that it is easy to miss their tract homes origins. The overall layout and wide greenbelts with walking paths remain intact making it an even more attractive neighborhood.

The first of a cluster of white, beautifully scented white flowers from an ornamental plant in landscaping. Pitosporum tobira is also known as Australian laurel, Japanese pittosporum, mock orange, and Japanese cheesewood.

On a previous road trip to Union Pacific's Cascade Sub in Central Oregon, I took the longer, more pleasing scenery route through the central part of the state as I drove my way south from Washington. Almost paralleling BNSF's Oregon Trunk Subdivision the greater part of the way, I had my eyes on one of two southbound trains that were going to run this day towards Bend, Oregon. By the time they climbed out of the Deschutes River Canyon, the low winter light was starting to set and was causing location choices to become more challenging for me as this crew had a work event to pick up cars at Metolius, Oregon, just north of here. Not thinking they would make it past Metolius till well after sundown, I took a break from driving and stopped at the well known Crooked River Bridge to take a walk and enjoy the recent snowfall in the area, along with the setting sun. With a chime over the radio from the Stampede sub dispatcher (who runs this route, along with three others currently) they were told to highball the pickup at Metolius and continue on to Bend to tie down till a Klamath Falls crew was rested to take it farther south. Skipping this event gave me good timing with a nice snow setting that I have not seen too often on this route. At least north of Bend at the lower elevations.
