Saturday, 14 October, 2017, was the first time I visited Winster just in time to make a pictorial record of a village local history "event" soon after it had happened.
As I drove down to the bottom of West Bank there was a crowd of people at the west end of Main Street blocking my way. A bystander told me that two vehicles had been on fire and the street was blocked off at both ends while the Fire Brigade cleaned up.
I parked my car and took these photos at two different times during the afternoon.
Fortunately, I understand that no one was hurt in the fire.
Two vehicles were completely burnt out and at least one other appeared to have been damaged. A nearby house suffered damage to windows.

This is a photo of my great-grandfather David K. Frame who drove trucks for the A&P supermarkets in Pennsylvania for 25 years. This is a 1921 or later Mack AC the truck that made Mack famous and led to its bulldog nickname & mascot. These trucks were used by both American and British soldiers during WW1 and supposedly the British engineers who were testing these trucks said that they had "the tenacity of a bulldog". The Mack AC was produced from 1916 through 1939. Note the C shaped completely open cab - no doors nor creature comforts for you sir only a roof and split vented windshield, come rain or shine.
With so many cheap Chinese copies of this Fire Engine on the market its easy to forget the original Matchbox version is still in production. Its yet another generic unlicensed Matchbox Fire Engine but has been around now for a decade in many many different colour schemes so has obviously proven popular with collectors. Its styling is boxy with no weird or exaggerated features which helps it to look believable. Part of a five vehicle set which were in abundance in ASDA stores in the Christmas period of 2015, a great shame they couldn't have gone further and stocked singles like they used to do up until 2012. Mint and boxed.
Certain Matchbox models, particularly their generic designs have found favour by a large amount of Far Eastern toy makers and thus can be seen sold under a myriad of different brand names, colours and liveries. One of these castings is the 2006 Fire Engine which ironically can be found in more non Fire Dept. colour schemes such as this completely unbelievable Police SWAT livery. Quality isn't quite up to Matchbox standards as this has a much simplified casting but overall its an interesting cheapo model. Part of a six vehicle set bought directly from China. Mint and boxed.
I'm surprised Mattel allow such blatant copying of some of its models but here we have a cheapo reproduction of the generic 2006 Matchbox Fire Engine. The casting itself doesn't look much worse than the Matchbox version but certainly doesn't feel as well made with pretty weak wheels and axles. I've seen them for some time sold in bargain and souvenir shops in different liveries, brand names and packaging though I believe the actual maker is Feisu. This one is currently available at B&M and is sold in City Vehicle packaging. Mint and boxed.
I'm not entirely sure why there needs to be so many generic fire engines in the Matchbox line up but this doesn't seem too bad looking with a realistic square styled cab. Its been in the line up for some years now and I believe will be recast for the 2014 model year.

Another Teamsterz MAN TGA based fire engine ladder truck. Nice detailing and not bad quality wise for something so inexpensive. Part of a 2 vehicle set. Mint and boxed.
