Dennis Specialist Vehicles was an English manufacturer of commercial vehicles based in Guildford, building buses, fire engines, lorries (trucks) and municipal vehicles such as dustcarts. All vehicles were made to order to the customer's requirements and more strongly built than mass production equivalents. For most of the 20th century the Dennis company was Guildford's main employer.
Following a decade of financial difficulties original shareholders sold out in 1972 and Dennis's ownership has since passed through quite a number of hands. The Woodbridge site was sold and a new small factory built in Slyfield remains in use by lineal business descendant, bus-maker Alexander Dennis. No Dennis haulage trucks have been built since 1985. The last Dennis fire engine left the Guildford factory in 2007.
The Dennis brand is still used on Alexander Dennis buses, Dennis Eagle dustcarts and Dennis mowers.
Saw this fire engine flashing its lights at an intersection yesterday and thought something might have happened up hill. When we walked across the street, we saw the fire engine stop by the roadside further up the street on our right. There were a couple of kids with bikes and one must have fallen down and got hurt. Stay safe, everyone!

When we were at my son's parade they borrowed a few appliances from the past ...what a beauty!
Sadly they raced off before I could take many shots.....can't imagine they were attending a fire!!!
There is a beautiful small island in the Finnish archipelago called Hogsara where the pace of life is soooooo slow it is amazing. I can't think of many more peaceful places.
So it is pretty unthinkable that they might need an emergency vehicle but there is one, this old Mercedes fire truck parked up in a shed. I wasn't sure if it was an attraction, a piece of interest for the tourists, or if it actually is there on stand by.
