A couple of images from the summer of 2010 when I was pursuing about a theme about sleep and dreams. I've always found bedrooms to be amongst the most evocative and moody of places, the room between worlds, the womb between realities, with its contrasts of light and dark, the luminescent glow of skin and cloth juxtaposed with shadows full of dreams and fears...the sleeper, half alive, half dead, now free of all constraints, expectations, laws and beliefs, free to roam their own versions of life, pursue their own desires and wishes...the secrets of sleep, locked away in forgetfulness at the touch of reality.

Here I'm using an old trick to find the exact center of the ring so I can drill a pilot hole. Basically, a 45 degree angle will bisect a circle places on a right angle. You mark the bisecting line, spin the circle a bit, then mark the next and bingo - you have the circle center.
Cause it is really too hot to be outside.... I just checked Weather.com and it actually says "dangerous Heat Index" and "Limit Outdoor Exposure" I do not know if I have ever seen that. The temp is 99 degrees and it feels like 106. I will not be sorry to finish August.
Trying out HDR on 3 shots with -1.3, 0, +1.3 EV. I don't think it'll become a habit.

I've got a frog in my throat. Another time it was a little hoarse. And I'm always having to put a sock in it. Needless to say I have to have a clear out now and again... ;O)

His gaze was quiet and steady as I walked toward him, an apple hidden behind me. Steam was rising from his back in spite of the cold temperatures that were seeping through the openings of my jacket.
He was trying to work out in his mind "Is there a halter and lead rope behind her?, or something sweet like she often has," for going out to see your horse should have moments of quiet enjoyment between the two of you, without expectations of work or strenuous activities.
As I got closer I could not only see his gaze, I could feel it. It went through me and instantly warmed my body, making my jacket less important.
I could smell his body, that wonderful scent of horse flesh and sweat, leather and toil and all the smells of hundreds of years that have settled on a horse's back. Sweet, a scent sweeter to me than the most fragrant and beautiful of flowers.
As I approached him, he bowed his head and gently nudged my stomach, touched his warm muzzle to my nose and moved closer hoping for a scratch on his thick and powerful neck.
Then he worked his muzzle around my back and discovered the apple in my hands that I'd been holding to gently surprise and please him.
He worked it into his mouth and began chewing, that familiar sound of crunching and mushing that I love to hear, knowing that his taste buds were exploding happily as I stroked his neck.
As I watched the foamy applesauce seeping from the corners of his mouth and dripping onto the ground, I knew that for an instant, I had connected with him and shared a silent moment of pure bliss, something that is all too lacking in today's world.
I hope you all find your bliss today and have a great Sunday
It's never to late to find a hero. I knew nothing of Saul Leiter until I chanced upon a selection of his photographs in a colour supplement several months after his death. A collage of pictures covered the top two thirds of the double page spread, below were supporting words. This shows proper respect for the photographer, the pictures come first, they speak for themselves. When the photographs have had their say, then words come into play. The written part of the presentation was a repeat of a previously published obituary, it closed with these words: “I like it when one is not certain what one sees,” he [Saul Leiter] said, in a rare interview just before he died. “When we do not know why the photographer has taken a picture and when we do not know why we are looking at it, all of a sudden we discover something that we start seeing. I like this confusion.”
These words appeal to me, often I'm not sure what I'm looking at, and sometimes I don't even know why I've clicked the shutter, but that last short sentence of the obituary causes me concern. I don't like confusion. I spend many hours trying to understand what I have seen, and I spend more hours find words that accurately convey my findings. Saul Leiter is a man of many pictures and few words. Finding Saul Leiter gives me permission to to take more photographs and use fewer words.
We all see things in different ways, there is a place in photography for creative ambiguity. Ambiguity recognise that the viewer has an active mind. Ambiguity invites the viewer into the picture on his or her own terms. Ambiguity invites the viewer to exercise his or her own imagination. Ambiguity is a sociable form of creativity.
On one fateful day, I stumble upon an unexpected tour of time-travelling in the center of Hong Kong metropolitan.
Seen here among the modern skyscrapers, is the dome of the The Ex-Legislative Council Building, formerly the Supreme Court in Central, Hong Kong, built in 1912.

While we were in Capadoccia, we spent the morning driving around to find the "Love Valley". We stumbled on this scenery instead. I wasn't happy with the initial composition as there was too much negative space so this is a crop of the original.
