Hemsby, the English town most badly affected by coastal erosion due to the rise in sea level. There is only one narrow gap in the rocks where access to the beach is possible. Taken 8 July 2023.
Zebra are very social animals. Not just the stalions fight, but their fights are much more prolonged and violent. Sometimes the fights last twenty minutes or so. Sometimes less than a minute or two. When they aren't fighting, they are often using each other's back as a resting place. There's always a lot of social interaction, both physical and verbal. I can hear their heehaw as I write this.
This photo goes out to all those who are stuck in the darkness of their own minds, those who do not even have a glimpse of hope left inside. This photo goes out to a wonderful friend of mine who is there right now, leaving me feeling helpless because it's a battle you mostly have to fight from the inside.
I wish someone would have told me this: Bright days will come if you fight for them. And the crushing dark days will make those bright days shine even more. Today I look back to the black days from some years ago and I am actually thankful they were part of my life because I think I couldn't value happiness as much as I can if I hadn't experienced the saddest sadness.

While out to photograph Kingfishers, a scrap developed involving two Cormorant, although it was a long way out, I managed five shots. The funny thing was, although two fighting birds dived, three came back to the surface!
It was only when I loaded my pictures onto my PC, that I saw the fish. The fish is a Pike, and based on the birds wingspan, I estimate it to be 700mm long, which would mean it would have weighed approx. 2.2 to 2.7kg.
The picture quality is not very good, but I though the subject was interesting.
Taken at Lackford Lakes, Suffolk

Workmen shovel in the falling snow amidst the steaming 'gloop' from one of the the conveyor outfalls of the Beichang Washery at Chengzihe near Jixi, as the their working ponies wait patiently whilst the carts are loaded up. Nothing went to waste in north east China in the depths of winter and the 'gloop' waste was a highly sought after commodity by occupants of the traditional chinese "hutong" dwellings for both warmth and fuel for cooking. I should add that the workmen (and ponies) were extremely cooperative with me when taking this photograph, and welcomed interest in their activities.

This is brutal! Sitting on my front veranda this morning I heard the honeyeaters going ballistic, then a whole group dropped down in front of the veranda, I had to stay sitting and not move and shoot through the barrier to get these shots or they would have taken off. I didn't even have time to set the camera, they are just record shots of the whole group having a go at one bird although others did start fighting as well, they all eventually gave up and took off including the bruised and battered one..
My knowledge of land animals before this trip was minimal so I kept asking my guide which animal would be the predator and which would be the prey. When we came across this hippo and crocodile, the guide said they are good neighbors and don't fight. That is, until this croc got too close to this momma hippos baby and the momma aggressively pushed the croc away. The croc did not like this and there was a quick flash of aggression.

Watched them for a long time and then they disappeared in the distance, still fighting.

What was to be my last sight of narrow gauge steam in north eastern China, for on this New Year's Eve 2009 the last coal train of the year has just arrived at Huanan and the wagons were being shunted by 'C2' class 0-8-0 No.041, covered in snow from fighting through snow drifts in Artic-like conditions, at a -33c temperature plus wind chill.
