Hope everyone had a wonderful Veteran’s Day…. We owe our troops, past and present so very much. We don’t thank them enough.

Kevan shot this photo earlier this year of two Tricolored Herons in breeding plumage having a territorial fight, most likely for nesting space. These scrimmages happen very quickly and not only is it hard to get one in the frame, it‘s even harder to get them both in the frame and in focus!

Fighting and playing is the way to prepare for the life as a grown up :-)

And the girl is, of course, on top here.

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to view, comment, and fave my photo.

As the ruckus between these birds erupted I quickly lifted my camera to capture the action as two mature Red-necked Grebes went at one another for a bit. They were chest to chest and beaks were involved - ouch! I believe this to be a territorial dispute between two grebe pairs on the lake. After they quit attacking one another, one of them shook it's wings, and things appeared to return to normal.

Just one day after I got a photo of blooming flowers, a terrible snow storm came and buried them in snow.

The fight or flight response is a physiological reaction that occurs in response to a perceived harmful event, attack, or threat to survival.

I have had Lightroom 2 for around six months now. It's about time I learn how to use it, so this processing is an experiment. These two were not getting along, with the "biter" chasing the "bitee" all the way across the pond.

Turns into a killer bird

Who would have thought so?

Yellow headed blackbirds fighting in eastern Washington. This fight went on for 15-20 minutes. I thought it would be to the death but both birds flew off in different directions. One of them had the upper hand and was on top pecking at the other's head form a good portion of the fight. I haven't seen anything like it.

Kampffisch - fighting fish

Als er meine Kamera sah, ging er zum Angriff über. Ich weiß nicht, was das für ein Fisch ist, aber ich glaube, der frisst auch Piranhas.

When the fish saw my camera, he attacked me. I do not know what kind of fish that is, but I think he also eats piranhas.

Have a great week and HGGT, everyone!

Of the several cases of custodial torture and deaths reported from around the world including the Floyd case, this one has to stand out. The mother above, lost her child after blood curdling physical torture by the Indian police because they found a wad of currency on him amounting to $70. Repeated pleas by the son that it was not stolen money but what his mother had offered him for purchases during festivities that were around the weekend, fell on deaf ears. The mother collected all her wits and fought herself through for thirteen years grinding all the legal grit at the Indian courts. Finally, as fate would have it, the two police men who had gotten away with the act till then were sentenced to death by hanging, pending appeal at the apex court of India. The story of this mother later went on to become a major motion picture titled, 'Mai-Ghat. (www.thehindu.com/entertainment/movies/ananth-mahadevans-m...) The movie captured the imagination of juries around the world and grabbed quite a few laurels where ever it was screened. 2/10/09 – yeah. this is ok. i really had a hard time deciding where to add color. or what colors. or if it needed colors. reactions?

this was really just a practice. i will probably do several others like this and hopefully they turn out better. and i wish the FIGHT integrated into the parts of the collage more.

anyways...

today was fantastic. i don't think i'll ever be effective in communicating how much i love book design. that class is always amazing. today we made book presses and i talked to my pal shawn about how he bound a bunch of test books he had brought in. and before that was poster design, where we really didn't do much. after that i put off doing my advanced type homework for so long. and i still haven't done it. it will take a while, so hopefully i get up early enough to do it, b/c now i am going to sleep. goodnight.

more news tomorrow.

There are still green spots on the rocks.
